I just got to my buddy's house to FINALLY start putting my VQ35IM on my VQ35 engine, I've been running a USIM all this time. I just got here and realized I don't have VQ35 rear coils with me. No idea where they are. My VQ35 has VQ30 rear valve cover and thus VQ30 rear coils.
I am wondering if anyone knows, or has a hunch, whether or not a FWD 3.5IM would fit on a VQ35 with VQ30 rear valve covers and VQ30 rear coils. I don't have a VQ35 rear valve cover or coil to check the height against. In fact I don't know even if a VQ35 rear coil would fit in a VQ30 rear valve cover or if the heights would be too different.
Anyone have any idea? I really don't want to waste the rest of the day driving back to my place to see if I can possibly find my 3.5 coils.

I'm stuck at work right now or I would go and check the height difference for you. I can tell you this, the VQ30 coils stick up much higher, as they go up through the upper intake manifold for the harness connections. The VQ35 rear coils are just like the front, same height, part#, etc. They sit a lot lower.
One thing you could do is try it out with your front coils in the rear, though I am not sure how they will fit with the VQ30 valve cover.

This is what i did for the gap. Pretty much just used a nut for a spacer.

The cylinder that the im will touch. and this is the one that you will most likely need to extend the harness. With the rear ones as well you will probley need to pull some more wire out of the loom to make it reach. But this is the only one i need to actually extend. Just to clairify those are de-k coils on the rear. But im sure that the 4th gen's coil will work as well. you would just have to make the hole bigger to have the bolt fit though
But im sure you only have one set of the 3.0 coils. So i think that the rear coils off the 3.0 will fit on the front of the 3.5. But im not totally postive since i havent tried myself

crap didnt realize that you have the 3.0 vc. Sorry for not reading the entire post.............. But this will help you if you have the rear 3.5 VC around.....
My buddy luckily had a VQ30de laying around and I checked the heights by bolting the 3.5 LIM and UIM onto the 3.0... I'm going to have to grind down the 3.0 rear valve cover coil pack posts and hope this hybrid 3.5/3.0 coilpack works. The center coilpack will interfere so what I am doing is taking the stalk off of the 3.0 coil (longer, so it can reach the spark plug) and put that on the 3.5 coilpack top (the part where the plug and ignitor is). I'm hoping it works otherwise I'm going to end up with a problem here and not going to be able to drive the car tonight when i get done lol.

Im pretty sure it would work as long as you address the clearance issue. I know when krrz350 put the 02 uim on the 3.0 i belvie he just used a ordanary spark plug wire, and plugged one end into the spark plug and the other end into the coil. and had the igniter part mounted somewere else.
did some rough tuning this afternoon to get the AFRs safe. Didn't install the RPM switch so I just tested it with VIAS tied open and left closed, and I can say without a doubt that the car is way way way fvcking faster than it was with the USIM on the 3.5... the track is going to be fun next time. will post pictures of all the custom crap we (maxmaxima91, my buddies john and mike, and myself) had to do later. it's late and i'm heading to bed after working on it til 5am this morning.

Glad to hear you got it all finished Neal. Can't wait to see it in action at the track. Let me know when you're going.Originally Posted by Nealoc187
