The free motor from 1991tsi

Well Here is the free motor he gave away..

Now... Im thinking about a complete tear down and rebuild, plus build it up for some hp. I relize 3.5's are the engine for the power but I figure this will be just as fun for me and a good learning experience. I have been doing alot of searching lately trying to learn all the parts I need for this engine and what not. But id like to hear your alls opinions. What are some good power upgrades any and all, and what all do I need for a through and complete rebuild? if you all wouldnt mind helping I need a place to start then the search tool will greatly help me out more than it already has. I know I would like to have a 6 speed for it so its a bit more unique, then ill need all the parts for that.. But what else for engine upgrades. I relize there have been tons of threads on this but Id like to take the good from alot of people who have used trial and error and try to incorprate it.

Thanks Guy's in advance

That engine was toasted, wasn't it? What model and year did it come from, and what mileage?

If it runs fine, I wouldn't mess with rebuilding it.

I was about ready to launch into the reasons not to try to swap in an engine from a 1991 TSI when I saw your thread title, before I actually read the thread.
