Hrmm, that requires reverse engineering, I would need a Fidanza LW flywheel to make it happen, so we can machine a trigger ring out of scratch.

Some people don't like sawing mounts and making holes in their firewall, understandable.

Anywho, Weimar your flywheel threw the machinist a curve, it's possible but not easy, I told him to bypass yours for now and just finish VW's (since we can remove VW's)

Nope, I'm pushing for whichever one of you guys (I forgot which username is what, I know the real names but can't tie em to each username lol) sent me the Fidanza to finish cause they KNOW how to do that one, don't know why they're dragging thier feet on that one....

I know its weaker than the 6spd but its just less work to swap out... plus I just bought all brand new bearings and seals for a rebuild. Not to mention, the 2nd gear on the 5spd goes to like what - 70mph? lol

I dont plan on going all out with the 3.5 swap, just going to pop in the regular 3.5 engine and call it a day. Should I want more power later on, thats when ill put in the 6 spd trans.

Actually according to my mechanic... Both trannies are equally as weak when it comes to the gear and synchro construction, it's the IPS bearing and MPG the reason why I went to 6mt over the 5mt.

That's great. Thanks for the update. In your experience, is there any other jobs that I should consider doing when I swap the transmission? Any of those "while your in there, you may as well..." kind of things

Uhmmm hrmmm.....

Personally, I did my motor mounts ...

and uhmmm rear main seal is a good one to do if it's leaking, uhmm.... EGR? Pretty accessible at that point in time too... hell headers since the xmember is down....

Can think of lots of things...

Working our magic on it, I'll let you know a better timeline once the Fiddy gets done, worst comes to worst I'll send it back to you.

Should have been done weeks ago..... They promised me this and that... And well yeah....

Greetings Gents, any news on the flywheel? Its starting to get cold in the garage. No pressure, I'm just trying to make plans on getting this done without that wonderful feeling of cold tools in my hands and cold concrete on my back. One day, I'll have a nice heated garage and this will no longer be a concern.

It is up to you guys, I am thinking about taking them back and going to the original shop that did mine, only problem is they are slow but guaranteed, this guy originally promised me a week because he doesn't own a shop, he just has all of the equipment for a machine shop just doesn't do it full time any more, so he just does this stuff on the side if you give him specs and dimensions (which we've already had because of my flywheel) and he said he'll cut it up in no time.

Now too much time has passed and I wish I would have went with the first guys they'd prolly be done by now, I will see how long the first shop will take....

I don't know what Weimar thinks, but I'm thinking the first shop if its guaranteed and they know how to do it. I'm thinking quality of work is the biggest concern and if they've done it before and yours is still functioning well, then we should go that route. Thanks for persevering with this Aackshun, i know its a pain sometimes when dealing with shops.

No problem man, it was such a big PITA to get mine done because this type of service was offered but by the time I did my swap Travis wasn't active on forums, even though now a days I see he logs on every once and so often....

Let me know a time frame if you could using the shop that did yours. If its going to be a real long time, I might check and see if any shops here in St. Louis can do it. Thanks dude.

I'd prefer to go with your shop since he's done it before. St. Louis is an hour and 40 minutes from me. I guess, if its not too much of a hassle, let me know what their timeframe is. My only constraint is weather up here in missouri, and it'll be a while before it gets terribly cold. Thanks again.

Congratulations! You have been nominated by the Haltech ECU search committee to design and construct a flex plate containing both the 4th gen 3.0 timing ring AND the 3.5 timing ring designed so that the rings can be read by different sensors. You have 30 days to complete the first prototype.

Everyone is counting on you! (no pressure)

Thanks dude. You've done a lot of running around on this. I appreciate your persistence. Did they give any kind of timeline for how long they thought it would take?

Not even going to step on that landmine, just know that they're at an actual machine shop, so they have other jobs and ours is in line, not like the other guy who just has all of the equipment and does it on the side.

I don't want to step on anyone's shoes here, but if someone needs a quick turnaround on a A33B Fidanza flywheel with a 3.0 timing ring, I'm selling one off my brother's totaled '95 in this part-out thread: http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ory-parts.html.

I think I'm up for having mine sent back if there is no timeline from the shop on them getting the work done. Also, I PM'd you back about the engine. BTW, what does bump mean? Is there a dictionary for all the abbreviations on the org? I've figured out a lot of them, but some are still a mystery.

Bump the thread to the top.

Hey and good news.... VW your flywheel is done.

Ben... Your's is being worked on, the machine shop is having fun mounting it so the machine can cut it, but there's actually light at the end of this extremely long dark tunnel we have been in.

ALSO BETTER NEWS!

I will be making a group deal for BOLT-ON Fidanza T-Rings for 3.0L timing on a 6MT flywheel!

Coming soon!!!

Cause for celebration!

And there was much rejoicing and merry-making!!! That's great!

If you're gonna do some bolt-ons, I'd be interested in one. if this swap I'm working on now goes well, I wouldn't mind doing another one. Keep me updated on the progress on that. What's the rough eta for getting the fidanza back to missouri? Thanks so much for doing this dude!

Hey fellas, just checking in. What's the current status on the flywheels? Temperatures are getting below freezing here. Is mine waiting to be picked up until Ben's is done? Did the machine shop ever figure out how to get his mounted?

I'm getting pretty desperate here. Not only is my 5spd on its last legs but I just blew the clutch on it as well. Replacing the clutch in 5*F weather and having problems with my backup vehicle is causing BIG problems. I needed this yesterday.
