can i use a 96 motor in 99 max?

i need to get the max running again. the cheapest/closest thing to me is a motor from a 96 max. i plan on keeping most, if not all of my sensors from my bad motor. as well as my intake manifolds. im also keeping my standard trans. (i think the new motor has auto trans)

but ive been hearing about a difference between motors this far apart. i know the 99 had to be different from all the others which makes it a PITA. im talking about differences as the odometer reading, and i think the vacuum lines have a small difference.

but anyways, should it just be plug and play essentially without having to get ecu and such? or would i be better off getting motor from a 99 max.

Same motor. MAY be a few minor things like you mentioned, but they are of the same generation so you should be a go

You guys are lying to him....ALL 99 engines are cali and 96 is not...therefore he will throw codes for swirl valves precar heated o2 sensors...

you can use the motor. you just have to swap the vacuum lines, intake manifold (including the egr stuff), and the fuel rail from your 99
