7th gen VQ swap in progress and old motor aftermath (slow updates!)...

I already pulled the old motor and started swapping a few things over and wanted to find out why the old motor seized.

1st thing I noticed after the tranny came off was the bolts holding the timing ring to the flywheel. They were either sheared off, missing or bent. The ring was starting to eat into the block/oil pan . Someone sucks at tightening bolts.
Visually, there is nothing wrong under the oil pan and you can still see a good amount of crosshatching (181k mi). Absolutely no shavings or anything were found.

I'm going to try to take pics as another reference for the swap. Perhaps, I may do a couple things slightly different, if possible.

Do we need to pray facing Surra 5 times a day?

Good to see another one in progress. What are you gonna do for tuning? More specifically the evt control. Seems like that's where the bulk of the power is hidden.

Bow down/order the haltech from Surra. It's going to basically be a clone of his.

I'll be content with 300 whp for a bit...

Oh, sorry. I have a 2003 ME TE 6 spd

I don't think I'd do if it wasn't a 5.5. The wiring wouldn't be PNP. I'm fine working with it, but the headache...

Friction plate and ARP rod bolts ordered

OT, but I think I narrowly avoided having my DD toasted b/c people like to hook up my battery terminals opposite at the auto parts store.

Not to mention I think I was just violated without a reach around AND I had to pay 115 dollars for it.

Yeah, yeah, never let anyone touch your car, I know.

Pics of the timing ring. A good example of what you should not see.

Swap some cams in their while you have the chance. You will seriously regret it when you try and do it later down the road. I would gladly wait a month or however long it takes to save up for cams. just my 2 cents.

Good luck on the swap!

Yeah, but I plan on boosting. Cams would be awesome, but then you might as well port the heads, and get real headers and....and... Just a lot of money for minor gains (340 whp max?). Don't get me wrong, I WANT that, but it just doesn't make sense.

I have a lot of turbo **** already, so that's much easier and cheaper.

Surra's dyno will keep me content for a few months until I fully readjust to the max. Then I'll be wanting more.

that flywheel is probably done for man, what are you doing to fix it? The alum threads where the bolts holding the timing ring on are probably toast.

I think the flywheel threads are okay. The screws backed out then sheared off. Even if they're damaged I can just fill them and retap. It's a dumb design.

There's nothing wrong with the old motor at all.

Take a guess why it appeared to be seized.

I just checked the box (before I threw it away) that the friction plate came in and there was a walbro 255 (GSS342) in it! SCORE!

I already have one in the car, though.
