HR heads VS Ported DE heads

Posting info from other sources.

Found out its great info. Even if running 3.0 timing HR heads will be a great "stock" option. Why pay for port work?

RWD HR heads can be found pretty easily and cheap. ALSO they have DLC cam buckets, that's ~$350 value right there!

Nice info.

For 3.0 timing guys, the HR head cam cap bolts to the 3.0 timing cover without egging out the top hole like you would on a DE head.

How much additional work is it to make HR heads work on a DE block? I would first be concerned about timing cover and the lower intake manifold. Is this only an option for you 5.7 gen guys, or could it work on the stock 5.5 gen motors, too?

For swapping HR heads onto a VQ35DE you'll need to:
-egg out the top cam cap hole in the inner DE timing cover
-run HR style intake cams so you can use the HR cam sensor (HR casting does not have provisions for DE cam sensor placement)
-redrill HR cam dowel position (it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 180* off from a DE)
-reposition cam position wheel
-wire up signal inverter
-use 07+ Alti or 09+ Max LIM/Fuel rail/UIM/TB (the LIMs between the two are the same) OR modify a DE LIM to fit. Find grey99max's thread in the nitrous section since he did the opposite.

That should cover most of it..

That's quite an improvement in flow, and much cheaper than port work. Will have to keep this on my radar for the future.

Don't know if some of you non-7th Gen guys frequent our forum... I posted some info regarding the VHR heads and found some really interesting results after TONS of research. Basically, it is my belief that the 7th Gen has VHR heads (minus VVEL) on a DE block. I try and prove this in the thread. The first post is dealing with coolant flow and other questions... scroll to post 3 and I have some pictures posted that really detail the VHR 7th Gen heads vs. older DE heads. Pretty dramatic difference. Hope some of you find this helpful.
