dek swap

Hello everyone I've got a 03 speed with 150k and a bad motor low compression due to rings.anyways I he been looking for a motor and couldn'tfind any 3.5 engines. I wwouldn't buy another 02-03 because of the valve cover ring and oil consumption issues. I've been researching how reliable the vq30dek is and my local junkyard has 6 or 7 to choose from.none of these CaR' have bad motors compared to the3.5 iI'veseen some with blown motors. Being so common I'm sure I could find a low mileage dek for real cheap complete. My question is will it work with the six speed transmission and will it work in my car. I've searched and found nothing about this. Any responses would really help me out that is in advance.

Blasphemy ...

Get an 05-06 engine and get the timing chain tensioners fixed and you're good. My 03 does just fine with 147k on the clock so not all 03 engines at least are bad.

In any case, it's never been done, and if it would be done, it will be semi-similar to converting a 95-99 using the full swap concept but the other way around since the 02-03 ECU is quite different than the 00-01.

Not worth the T&E IMO, getting a low mileage 00-01 Maxima is the smarter choice if that's what your intent is.

So you think better to just buy another maxima a 2001. And be done with it? I'm picking.up what your putting down. Well I guess I'm not doing that swap. What's wrong with the 04 motors?

04's had timing chain tensiones issues, heck maybe even teh 05-06, in any case, this doesn't make sense.

U can probably make it work but it would take a lot of work I think if u use the 3.0 short block and everytjing else 3.5 but u will always have the timing belt issue at about every 90-100kmiles,it happens to all 02-08 3.5 cause of the way the chain is routed giving a bend over time.

Best bang for ur money is to rebuild ur engine, that way u pay a little more but a brand new engine.

Timing belt?

I've got 247k on my VQ30DE and 147k on my VQ35, neither of which are in need of any timing chain items.

Ur lucky cause everybody knows 3.5 timming belt has to be changed every 100k it starts making noises.3.0 timing lastest for ever.

you're special, because EVERYONE knows the VQ30 and VQ35 doesn't even have a timing belt! It's a chain, sillybear.

Doing a 3.5 to 3.0 VQ swap makes no sense. I would invest in a newer 3.5 or same model and while its out, work on it and do whatever you want to it. I think the de-k only puts 220hp and the 5.5gen Vq35 puts somewhere around 250 if I'm not mistaken... Or maybe you wanna get rid of the shell you now have. Buy a 5th gen (2000-2001) and mod out the de-k? So ultimately don't regress, progress.
