yes it's your input shaft bearing. as you already deduced, the input shaft spins and makes noise when you don't press the clutch pedal, and the noise goes away when you press the clutch pedal because the input shaft stops spinning when you do that.

Had a similar issue on a 5spd.
Thought it was the TOB or the input shaft bearing too, but it ended up being the clutch disk center section being loose/broken.
same noise, same symptoms = push in clutch it's quiet, let it go it rattles.
now I've seen some 6spd clutches sprung while others were unsprung.. so it might not exactly apply to you..
therefore it's most likely the input shaft bearing going, but still gotta check it.
How to test for input shaft bearing problem??
take off the tranny from the car, grab the input shaft (where clutch disk rides) and move it up and down within the tranny, if it's moving slightly or real loose then definitely the input shaft bearing is toast.
I've found that once one side of input shaft gets loose, the other side bearing needs to be replaced as well, or it will wear out quick. FYI, you don't want to rebuild it twice. been there done that, it's not really that fun. (i'd invest the extra ~$60 for bearing and replace input shaft seal too)
while you're at it.. add HLSD and replace the diff bearings and axle seals as those carry a very big load, and wear out sooner.
don't have HLSD diff? send me a pm I have one (insert smartass shameless-plug banter here)

My other tranny had the same symptom, but it is the TOB. Input shaft is tight, but the TOB grinds like crazy when spun by hand and is very loose and falling apart LOL.
Either way, it doesn't matter, since you have to take it off to fix it.
If you're staying stock clutch, then get this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001B5E0XQ/...rds=clutch+kit
Cheapest quality clutch that you can get (I searched a lot). I've used it before and drove the **** out of it.
