Re: best cd/mp3 for $250

The Pioneers and the JVCs are very nice units, but I researched a little and decided on Alpine (7894 model). I really wanted to go Pioneer (I already had a Pioneer deck) but there were two things that steered me away from their models. The first was title scrolling. I burn a ton of CDs with CD-Text and obviously now MP3s and with the Pioneer decks you'd have to hold down a button for a couple of seconds in order to scroll the title. With my Alpine it automatically scrolls all the info. The second drawback was the time between tracks. I read that on the Pioneer decks it took a couple of seconds longer than the Alpine (which takes about 2 sec between each MP3). Also, the Alpine has a stronger amp if you're running your speakers off the deck and it is more tweakable if you like to mess around with all the different settings. I didn't look much into the JVCs but my friend has the SH77 I think which is a non MP3 model and it is a really great deck, looks sharp too. The model number for the MP3 deck is 99, it's been out for a lot longer than the new Pioneers & Alpines so you should be able to find it cheaper or even used. I paid about $300 for my deck.....

The JVC KD-SH707 is a great unit, new for 2002. I have a couple brand new units for sale. I'll let go of one for $250, including overnight shipping.

More info: JVC KD-SH707 info.

PM me if you're interested...

there are too many of ones to choose from. I would emphasize the features I'd be looking for: brand name, security feature (motorized faceplate), remote, frequency responce, preouts, separate subwoofer control, nice display...if anyone has anything to add, please do.

i have an aiwa, cdcmp32 i think it is... real nice, nice display, all the basic features, etc etc... the best thing to do it go to crutchfield.com... even if youre not gonna buy from them, which i would cuz theyre great, you can see a list of a lot of mp3 players on the market and compare them, which is a great feature of crutchfield.com. it lines the ones you select up right against eachother, all on the same screen and lists all their features and prices

I would check out the kenwood KDC-MPV7019. THis is what ill probably get. Ive always like kenwood and pioneer faces but Kenwood just came out w a changer (mp3 changer) As far as i know the only companies that dont require u to buy some ***** *** memory module(RF) are now sony(xplod) and now kenwood. U can check them out on Ebay or for the cheapest retailers ive found look at www.speedsound.com or www.carmedia1.com I havent had problems with either of these companies.

aiwa sucks....the only good thing about the one i had was that it played mp3's....i didnt like anything else about it...the remote was too friggin small and would not attach to the steering wheel...the hu itself had low wattage and also caused alot of friggin feedback noise

i had to push the button too many friggin times to change from radio to cd
the volume **** is flimsy

fugly display colors

i really really really really really hated that thing.....I have pioneer now which I have had before...but went to aiwa because of the mp3 they had the first one available locally....and I have discoved since then that.....i can live without mp3 in my car i'll just be burning cd's on a daily basis

maybe you just got a lemon... mine works great, no feedback noise, remote attached fine and works fine, the HU has a contrast control so you can adjust it, i dont have a volume ****, its an up/down button... i like mine, and im straight with it for a long time

Im not a big fan of aiwa car **** either. The interface just isnt up to par. I have been using one of their home mini systems for a few years, and t he only thing that still works is the radio. I would stick w the pros on this one..
