installation kit for Maxima 2003

Hi,
I just bought a new Maxima SE 2003. I am looking to replace the factory radio (not the Bose upgrade) with my Alpine XM Radio system. Anyone know where I can get my hands on a installation kit for the maxima for an aftermarket radio? Thanks

Don't buy an aftermarket radio kit. They look very cheezy and don't match the dash well. Get a Maxima GXE radio bezel and pocket from your Nissan dealer. This way you'll have a factory look. Like this:

the GXE vent assembly looks very nice, but it is almost $100 from what I remember.

Thanks MaximaDave. Stopped by the parts department at the dealership today. They were not able to find the part number nor "visualize" the part. We tried to see if they had any used GXE's on the lot, but they were out. So I faxed the pic you attached to them and we'll see if that helps them locate the part. Question: Is the "frame" attached to the top vents? Meaning is it one unit? I'll stop by tomorrow and see if my fax helped. Will let you know....

68750-3Y110 - "VENT - CTR UP BLK" (Vent and trim around Double DIN radio opening)
68475-35F00 - "POCKET"

I have to drop off my Max at the dealer down the street from my work tomorrow morning. I'll check on pricing for you tomorrow.

The Bezel is about $130 and the Pocket $25. They have the ability to knock the price down some, especially if you rationalize the fact that you had to come here to find the information necessary to buy parts from them.

Their computer shows the above mentioned parts incorrectly. Your radio will likely screw directly into the existing framework using the hole patterns already there. You will have trouble getting the stock radio out of the existing mounting bracket 'cause they are screwed in sooooooo tightly. There is another post on various techniques floating around. Good Luck my friend!

Dave,

I went and talked to the dealer and asked about the bezel in the 2000 Maxima GXE. They said it wouldn't work, so I asked them to look at this thread, to see the pictures you sent. Based on that they ordered the bezel sight unseen even though they doubted it would work. I greatly enjoyed their apologetic phone call when the part arrived. They even quoted your prices listed above and offered a 15% discount. Thanks for your help. I got a couple of pics of the end result, but couldn't figure out how to add to the thread (Call me a newbie, I'll figure it out...)

Thanks

Question, that bezel looks pretty tight indeed, but it is mighty pricey. Does the metra or scoshe deck install kit look that bad? I've never seen one close up, but those kits cost nothing compared to half a deck cost for some plastic. Any thoughts?

The scosche or metra kit looks a lot better than those black housings normally given out by installers. Although the GXE parts will definitely look more flushed.

I'll try to get pics up of the Scosche kit. I've got two after Sounddomain still didn't send me the right version (I wanted the 2DIN but they keep sending me a 1DIN+Pocket)

Considering I am going to be installing a CD changer where the pocket is going, would the GXE bezel work for me?

If someone posts a link do people follow it? I got, at the time, the only kit that was made and have posted pictures numerous times. It is only for a single din, but as you can see it has been modified. Modification took ~15min not including the fiberglass to make it smooth. GXE kit is just way too pricey.

Anyway, here goes again, stock kit on left, modified on right.

This is the Scosche kit for the 5th gen Maxima. It's a 1+1 DIN unit with an adapter to convert the second DIN space into a pocket.

You'll notice it has the same texture as the dash, so it's a closer match than most "black" generic kits.

You are the man Mike! Thanks much, I just ordered the kit from sounddomain, only 9 bucks. That'll work perfect. I think it was the old version of the kit that sucked, they've done better this time round.

Is it a flip-out screen? If so, chances are the answer is yes. We have a double-DIN sized hole so you can fit two single DIN's in there.
