weird clicking noise- help!
weird clicking noise- help!
OK, i installed my new kenwood mp3 face last night and aside from a blown fuse, everything went smoothly..almost. Even before i connected my subs, when i turned the volume up, (not deafaningly loud), just at a loud volume u might listen to it at if the windows were down. ANyways at these "high" volumes i was getting a clicking out of the speakers. These are top of the line pioneer 6.5s so i know they werent getting too much power, since the face puts out like 23 rms. Also i turned the bass down, so it wasnt a popping of the sub. It sounded more like ****ed up distortion, like a random popping and scratching noise. I tried reversing the polarity and it made no difference. I have never experienced this before. Can anyone gimme any info??? Thanks

First, why did the fuse blow?
Headunits are known to produce massive amounts of distortion in the built in amps. They run very hot, and it's possible the voltage the headunit was able to get through the factory wiring was too low. Did you have the engine on?

If your going to be running your speakers with full audio range get an amp. If your head unit has a built in cross over set them so the interior speakers (not your sub) are not getting the lower frequncies. If you plan to be running them anywhere near a high volume just get yourself a nice amp. P.S. most head units ratings are exact oppisite of amps in other words over ratted most head units on the market wuill not give you enough power to play what the unit says it's rated ofr cleanly. In other words if you have a radio that is rated at 40 watts per channel don't be surprised if you are only getting 22 watts of usable wattage ( IE: clean distortion free music) While a 40 watt amp probally puts out 45-55 watts clean signal. Most Amps are underated. But before you do all that recheck all connections to make sure your speakers are wired correctly and in phase ( + to + & - to -). I don't think youre dumb or nothing but I just am not sure of your audio experience so I explain it like you have no I dea just to be safe. Any problems feel free to email me at dat_nomad@comcast.net . good luck
Like posted earlier why did the fuse blow? Fuses always blow for a reason. So what is needed is to olocate the problem that caused that, fix it and then trouble shoot the sound. Dont just replace the fuse. Like I said fuses blow for a reason, next time it may be more than just a fuse.

Re: Re: weird clicking noise- help!
Thanks for the advice guys. I belive the noise might be gone, since I havent heard it since. TO recap, it was coming out of all the speakers. I cant really afford an amp right now so I just have the bass turned down on my full range speakers and the gain up on my amp. My setup is so ghetto, im using a 4 channel old kenwood amp to power my subs(which has no low pass cross) and a pos pyramid crossover which seems to be workign fine for the moment. I found the blown fuse and replaced it. It had blown bc the 12vdc hit the ground of the car (some metal inside the dash) so now my antenna and clock work ok. Everything seems to be good now, (all of polarities are correct and in phase too) I will post again if i get that clicking again. Just to let u know, this face kenwood mpv-7019 is a great face. Obviously im not goin for high end sq but for someone on a low budget it is great. I got it for less than $180, and it has mp3 capability and the face changes to like 20 colors automatically. Im not to impressed with kenwood's "equalizer" settings such as top40 and jazz but other than that im pretty impressed. Thanks
