When I had my pioneer deh6400 installed at BestBuy, I think they installed some sort of capacitors or bass blockers to my speakers. I am using head unit power only. If I were to remove the bass blockers, will the sound sound more full? I do have subwoofers so I think thats why they put the caps on but I was wondering If I should remove them to see if I can get a better, fuller sound?

 

Bass blockers consist of a capacitor. A 6 dB / octave high pass crossover. Removeing them will give you lower frequency response in all the speakers, but lower power handling.

 

I know this question is to broad but, Do you reccomend me removing or keeping them? I have Pioneer 6400 hu, eclipse up front and blau in the rear, 400 watts to 2 10" in the trunk. Sorry but Im not too familiar on what to set crossover freq. and stuff. I played with the eq alot and cant seem to get the sound I want

 

Take them out and see how it sounds. do you notice any distortion when you turn it up? A lot of low quality caps can make the speakers sound harsher, even bad. And there is no way from here to tell what fequency bass blockers they installed.

 

I might take them out sometime and listen. I can turn the volume way up and still play fine but thats when the low freq is set to +3, if I turn them higher then it starts to sound muddy and unclear

 

The bass blockers keep bass from coming through the smaller speakers which cannot handle it. If you remove the bass blockers and you puh bass heavy or loud music through the small speakers, YOU WILL BLOW THEM. My suggestion leave them for the moment, or go to another audio installer for a second opinion. The Best Buy guys must know what they're doing if they installed them in the first place.

 

The bass **** on the headunit is probably the most dangerous feature possible. They shouldn't have bass *****. Turning the bass to +3 requires twice the amp power into the low frequencies. If you are using headunit power you will quickly go into distortion and most likely burn up the speakers. I pretty much never use the bass / treble adjustments on my headunit. The music is set to how I like it with the amps gain adjustment. If the HU's adjustments are needed the system is not set up properly. You should notice distorted sound with the bass at +3 or above regardless of if you are using headunit power or a high quality amp.

 

Is it definate that they even put in the bass blockers? I have done several radios, with even the stock speakers and it was not need. That particualr radio I believe has a high pass for fronts. Try that, not the bass and treble controls.

keep in mind if you remove them you will VOID your workmanship warranty from BestBuy and they wont wanna know you if you ever have problems with your deck. I say let them remove them that way your in the clear.
