engine noise at highway speeds

Hey all -

Recently, I noticed that when I listen to the radio and I'm going fast (50+), and I lightly press on the accelerator, I can hear a "popping" static-y sound from the speakers. This doesn't happen if I'm using the CD player/changer and at lower speeds the sound is perfect - and it's fine when I am doing real acceleration or when I'm coasting. The problem only seems to occur when I barely press the gas, like when I'm maintaining my speed on the highway. I don't think it is a new problem, because I never EVER listen to the radio (so it's not terribly important, either), but it is very annoying when I do actually listen to it. The popping does seem to be related to RPMs.

Last, and not least important, I do have a switch to put the antenna up and down. But all of the connectors are good, and if I bypass the switch it still doesn't work.

What do you think; bad ground? That's all I can come up with.

Please help!

Thanks,

Doug
