Behind wheel well subs

Alright, I'm ordering my box(s) this week and had what I thought was a great idea. I'd like to mount my amps on a rack that sits on the back of the rear seat area and have my subs in wedges behind the rear wheel wells. I'd do 2 boxes with some nice 10s in them. I'd also fat mat the whole area to limit rattles. Any problems with this setup that you can see?

If the acoustics don't work right, please let me know. I'd go traditional as well with a single box, but the custom jobby would be sweet.

There will be some sealing issues to deal with but the area is definitely big enough for a ten or twelve sealed. You can probably put the jack in the spare well. The mount removes with a few screws.

You might get some problem if the subs are mounted directly on axis and facing each other. They may actually work to cancel each other. Try angling them slightly. Other than that It will definately work. I have a similar set up but with only one 10.

Good thoughts. I relocated the spare jack already, just a matter of it looking nice and flush in that corner. I'll have to see how the boxes turn out. They are wedge style so they are angled up at about 20 degrees, that should keep them from cancelling. I had a friend that faced 2 directly together, dear god the boom was thunderous, in a Charade no less!

I am quite sure the trunk is too narrow for cancellation to be an issue. Also, consider the JL audio stealth enclosure, that is corner loaded. The only problem would be ensureing the tail lights are secured and sealed. Where about are you in the country? I have been interested in building a composite box in the corner for a while, but personally I have three twelves so I havn't done it.

I would love to go stealth, if I didn't have a 5g. They haven't come out with anything stealth for them yet that I've seen. I will definitly take pics once it all comes together. I need to get some more exact dimensions before I have the order commenced.

I meant to build one the same style yourself.

2 15" Brahmas in the rear deck? You must be mad I tell ya, mad. It'll shatter your rear windshield, well, maybe not, but dear god it could.

I've made some new calculations for my behind the wheels. I have a friend that works fiberglass, but that might be much more trouble than its worth. WIth my new calculations, each box will be .98ft cubed inside. That'll do nicely indeed. Even did all the angle calculations so that the builder won't have any excuse to screw it up. Sometimes you never can tell.

2 15s will never fit in the rear deck of a 2K-2K1, not sure about 2K2. The hinges for the trunk have springs that run directly under the deck. Messed up my install cause of this.

Why the hell Nissan couldn't do a decent trunk hinge is beyond me. You would think this was the hinge off an old Buick or something. Just check out a new Bimmer to see how it should be done.

Sorry for the rant

I was planning the same thing. Going to measure today. If the deck isn't deep enough I'll use a pair of twelve's. Twelve's would save me over $400, because I already have one.

Eric,
That's okay. I have a '99. I could check with one of my friends around the corner to get measurements of his 5th gen if it's absolutely necessary.
