Speakers suck!!!!!!1

ok..today i went to my local install shop to get my 2 12" infinity perfects put in. I got em, and rode around for a few hours, and decided that they sound like ****..total ****. They barely put out what the stock bose 8" does. anyways, i went back, had them take out the infinities, and put 2 pioneer premier impp 12"s in my box. So now i have these, and they sound pretty good, but not the earth shaking bass that i'm looking for. so in a few weeks, i'm set to go back and get 2 MTX 8000 12"s in a new ported box. My question is, do you guys think that the MTX speakers will give me the bass i want? I'd like to be able to play my speakers loud enough to shake me, my seat, and everything around me, almost enough to where i can't sit.
Btw, i hooked it all up to the stock HU, bose w/ 6 cd changer.

Thanks,
Wind

Huh? You wired the SUBS to your stock deck?? What kind of amp do you have? Did you even get an aftermarket amp to run the subwoofers to?

Re: Speakers suck!!!!!!1

If you want everything to shake, you're probably going to need a better setup. Make sure you get a nice big ported box built to your woofer's specs and plenty of power. Not sure how you hooked up your system to you Bose, but if you used the standard adapter that is one of your problems. It's a pain in the *** because you have to swap out everything, but I'm sure a HU with good pre-outs will help you out a lot. Also your sub selection seems to be limited to the "big" brands. You might want to look into some lesser known brands, Adire & RE make great subs that can get extremely loud. If you want to stay with the retail brands look into Kicker Comp VR, l5 or l7s or JL w3s. Not exactly sure if I've heard the 8000 series, but I've listened to a lot of MTX and I have yet to be impressed. You also might want to take your car to another installer if they can't get two 12" Perfects to blow away your stock Bose.

Someone was dissatisfied with two perfect 12s? And pio impp's sounded better on the same system?

Hmm...

With that in mind I highly doubt the MTXs will do what you want them to. I'm not familiar with the memphis 500d, but I'm guessing it puts out ~500w rms x 1. I think you might be a little limited if you want gobs of SPL with that power. When I had a single perfect 10", I was running it on a 500w rms x 1 @4ohms amp. If you really want SPL w/o SQ at relatively low power, you might check out kicker.

My suggestion would be to buy a single sub among the lines of a Treo 12" SS, IDMax 12", Brahma, etc, something to take all the power that amp has to offer, and make a ported enclosure yourself so you don't eat the cost of the other 2 12" enclosure.

i'm not sure how good those memphis are but if u want heavy bass, i would get two shiva's and a good amp or save space with one 15" brahma and i promise you, you'll go death within hours....but what's the specs on that amp as far as 2 and 4 ohms?

theres definitly some thing wrong with your setup cause my buddys got to perfect 12s in his car hooked up to a mtx 6500D and it hurts my ears pretty bad after about 10second of listening sounds like a amp hu or install problem to me and as far as the mtx 8000s go in my opinion they are one of the most ineffiecient subs on the market the only time they sounded good was hooked up to the mtx 81000D which was dumbing about 800w to each sub if you only have 250watts to each sub they arnt going to even move and as far as the impps go i wont even wast my time but good luck anyway

I agree with everyone else that it is the install and not the subs.

it can't be the install, i didnt' change anything, but put in the impp's, and they hit at least twice as hard. and the amp is rated at 500x1 @ 2ohms, but it pushes 750 no probs

Probably 95% of a speakers sound is related to the enclosure. Just because the pioneer's sound good in that enclosure is no reason to believe anything else will sound better. If you put a really good sub in a box too small you will cut off the low end. If you put it in a box too large you will lower the power handling and possibly boost the low end too much in relationship to everything else. Also, most different speakers have slightly different mounting hole diameters. Did you check to see if you had a good seal with the first set of speakers? I have heard nothing but good things about the Perfects when installed in the right box.

I think you need a new local shop They weren't the ones that told you the memphis was that underrated, were they?

If the infinitys weren't moving like, 3" (or something to that nature...the excursion on the 10 I had was impressive) smoothly, then something was wrong. Did you check for air leaks around the surround/in the enclosure? Was this a cheapy pre-fab stapled enclosure? Was it matched to specs with the woofers?

I still think there's a good chance that you're not going to be satisfied with the MTXs. Did you listen to them at the shop? That's not the best stage for analysis, but it's a start. Like someone else above said, MTX subs have yet to impress me, though I can't list off exactly the models I've heard.

Get two tempests (15") on ampmanaudio.com. You might hurt yourself in a ported box. If you're feeling brave, 2 15' brahmas. Enough to cause permanent hearing damage in seconds. Would that satisfy you? Oh it would probbaly make your car rattle so much she might throw out her vibrator. J/k, lol. Make sure u hit that 33hz.........hehe

One of my buddies has 2 12" Infinity's running off Rockford Fosgate amps and they pound like crazy. You can't sit inside the car for 10 seconds without getting winded or going deaf. Its got to be the install or the enclosure. Mind you, you're running off the stock Bose HU, if you would get an aftermarket HU i'm sure you'll be much more pleased.

if you have the room, id suggest a pair of tempests over a pair of shiva's...but either way, the 2 shiva's will kill a comparably installed jl 12w3's... the box size required for the shiva's is smaller than the 12w3's (actual t/s--not mfg reccomended), and they are soooo much less expensive. buy anything adire, and i doubt youll be displeased.

If you want 2 12s, two Shivas would be a good choice. As mentioned, go to www.ampmanaudio.com, they sell the Shivas. You can use your current amp, wire them to two ohms and you'll be set.
