Opinions on my Alpine Subs
#2
Lemme guess ,you got these at circuit city for $149 a pair? lol i know all about that, my friend got them about a week ago in his jeep and they did not impress me one bit ( or him for that matter, hes selling them for 120 shipped if any1s interested) bring them back if u can and get the type r's if u wana go alpine.. or spend a lil more and go with JL u won't regret it

Yea, in my old setup i had the 12w3s, awesome sub, but i just got a w7 and wow that thing hits... spooky if u want deep bass id say def go with the 12w3s you can get them for like 175-200 a sub for the 12inch model, put them in a sealed box and buy my JBL 600.1 amp (ill give it to u for 125 shipped
) and you'll have some sick bass in ur ride

ive never had a problem with those subs as cheap as they are ive installed them in many cars even in a jeep cherokee the other day and they pounded and as far as the type R's go they are pretty inefecient of course im an installer at cc so my answer may be biased id check your amp or hu before dumping them but of course JL does make a sweet sub

they arent 1200, but theyre still expensive.
i got 2 15" adire brahma's for less than 800 bux new...and id put just 1 up against the w7 any day of the week. im trying to arrange a test setup for listening to both, as far as spl, and sq are concerned.![Wink](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

How come everyone always asks for opinions on their eq AFTER they've bought it? ![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
AFA the alpine subs go, I've only had one example. A friend of mine in a 92 Legend coupe has a 12" Type R with I believe an MTX amp....either that or a kenwood amp, I forget. Whichever it was, he bought it with the sub, so it's new-model. He has a stock bose w/an adapter, and it sounds....decent. It's a little muddy for me, and doesn't really do well on the lower frequencies...kind of sounds like a typical brand-name 10". It seems to have a limited sweet spot, but that sweet spot is ok.
It's in a pre-fab sealed enclosure though, that I doubt matches the specs, so that could explain the loss of low-end. Plus it's hooked up through bose w/adapter. I'll bet in a system w/a good deck and in the right box, it'd sound good for the price.
