cd player doesnt work

cd player doesnt work
i was driving this afternoon listening to a cd when all of a sudden it stopped playing and said error, so i look at the bottom of the cd, saw that it was kinda scratched, got another one out and put it in, the error message popped up again... i try several cd's and the thing will not work, i searched and i dont c how to fix it besides to get a new head unit, does anyone know what is wrong??
