Sony XPlod 12" Sub System

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima GXE. It has the stock deck in it but it is not the bose system. My friend bought 2 12" Sony XPlod subs and a 1200W amp. He took all of the stuff to a local store called Kustom Kar Sounds and they told him that the amp is way too powerful for those subs and that he should buy different subs for the amp since the subs can handle like 250W each. I told my friend that since he has already purchased the subs that i'll gladly buy them off him for a discount because i'd like to be able to bump in my car. Anyways, I have a few questions as i'm not yet a system genius.

Would you recommend I get 3 12s or just the 2 i'm getting from him?
What amp would you recommend I get?
How bad will my music sound with the stock deck and speakers with the subs?

PS- I'm hoping to have them install a bass **** so I can adjust the bass.

Thanks!

3 12s is incredible boom, even with xplods. With factory speaks, you'll drown out most of the psuedo tweeters in the A pillar and to say nothing of the delightful clarions in the doors. Those things are just crap.

I personally don't go 12s myself and certainly not 3, nor xplod, but you could hit them with a nice 200x2 amp and call it a day. Should be fine. Upgrade the mid and tweet range before you go bottom end, muddy voice and drowning bass won't do any good.

Friends don't let friends listen to crap

Alright, well what do you guys suggest. Keep in mind i'm running on an incredibly low budget as I am only 16 and have to pay for my insurance. I would like to keep my factory deck because I like the remote on the steering wheel. Has anyone put a deck in their car AND been able to keep the remote on the wheel? Thanks!

i have a couple suggestions. if you want 12's, there's the elemental designs 12k's for $135, or the adire audio shiva. if you want 15's, there's the eD 15k's for $150, or the adire audio tempest. you cant go wrong with any of them.

who are you talking to? the subwoofers i mentioned are very good, and are very popular for products in the value market, and even against more expensive products. the 4 i meantioned show that you really dont need to spend 200+ per subwoofer to get good quality speakers.

steering wheel controls

As far as the adapter goes, you can get the pac swi adapter from crutchfield. It is about $70, and it will allow you to retain use of your steering wheel controls...you will have to however cut the brown wire out of the small harness that connects the steering wheel controls to the head unit and ground it if you wish to retain the use of the trip meter button (DTE, MPG,MPH, etc.)

What's your budget? If you're on a budget I'd recommend getting a single 15" sub to start with and if that isn't enough you can add a second later on. A quality 15" should have no problem outperforming those two 12s you're looking at (with the same amount of power). There are adapters that you can get to make your steering wheel controls work with aftermarket decks.

What's the deal with these adapters for aftermarket deck control for the steering wheel? That would be pretty sweet, otherwise I'd want to make those controls do something, like super pursuit mode, or make KITT say things like "Michael, watch out!"

You have to program them with the aftermarket deck's remote I am pretty sure (don't have one so I can't say for certain). I don't think you can program a button to put the car on auto-pilot..although that would be AWESOME!!
