My Bose headunit problem, fixed!

The car:
1996 Maxima Black/black 5pd with the Bose stereo

The problem:
After the car sits in the sun for several hours, in this South Florida heat, the head unit will not work. I will go to start the car and their will be no hint of the HU operating. This ONLY happens if the car is in the direct sun light for several hours, if it is under a shade tree, garage, the car is moving or running, the HU works fine.

The solution:
I pulled the headunit out, pulled both plugs out of the back of the HU, pluged it back in, the HU will fire right back up like nothing happened. Since this is not feasiable to do all the time, I found by disconnecting the two heavy connectors on the positive terminal on the battery will reset the Bose and fix the issue. I pulled every possible fuse that may affect the power to the HU with no luck.

THIS ALSO FIXES MY RARE "CD ERR" PROBLEM.

I hope I'm not reiterating this solution.

So, Doug, let me unterstand this. You pulled the main hot wires off the battery and put em back on and the problem went away. Do you need to do this EACH TIME you have the problem, or has it not happened again since?

It will fix the problem, temporarily. Once the car sits in the sun again, the head unit will crap out.

Needless to say I found a nice shade tree at work and school

Oh, ok. Gee, I'd call that kinda a "temporary correction" rather than a "FIX" IMHO. I mean every time it happens you have to pop the hood and pull wires and then put em back. Hard to look cool doin' that!

I reconnect and it is working again. i dont have a display and the cd ejects everything all the time. Any Thoughts.

This sounds like a solder point or several solder points on a PCB are flexing or de-coupling under heat conditions just enough to cause the HU to fail. I had this problem with a 2001 Quest HU, at one time. That HU was by Clarion. You might want to send your HU into one of the various BOSE specialists like Factory Car Stereo Repair, Inc. or, if you have amplifier problems go to Coastline Electronics. Google them and you'll find their websites. With older units like this, the capacitors and such start to leak and fail.
