How will 2 8" subs sound?
I might use a friends old sealed box with 2 8" fosgate punches. This is just untill I go home and have acess to tools to build a box for 12"s. Has any once ever had/heard 2-8" subds before. I dont expect anything awsome but Im just trying to decide if it is worth the time to install it or not.
ahhh....
if you had maybe 6 or 8 of them it would hit hard. 8in subz are very small so if you have a tight area trunk then they are all right but if you have a huge trunk and you put 8in subz in, well it will sound like someone is kicking your trunk lid.

Maybe it's just my experience but an eight can sound anywhere from puny to huge. It's a matter of which eight you use, the enclosure design, encloure build quality, amp, wireing, and speaker placement. Not to mention everything else in the signal path prior to the amp.
I heard 2 kicker 8's in a Tahoe running off the stock head. There was alot of distortion and it sounded like ***, but the bass was deffinetely there. So if you have an aftermarket head with crossovers, you should be fine for now.
I agree with jmax on the 'variability' note, but with 2 8" baseline punches, an awesome enclosure and all the other addressable variables still isn't going to produce a whole lot. It might be worth it to just throw 'em in though, who knows. I had a punch XLC 10" as a temp sub in a pre-fab enclosure at one point, it tided me over at least.
8"s can pound
I have had a LOT of setups over the last 8 years. Just to let you know about controlling for other variables, all have been run off of the SAME AMP- a RF punch 200x2 at the proper impedence for the particular setup (twice it ran @ 8 ohm into a dual 4 ohm 12"), but for the most part it was driving a 4 ohm load in mono, so it was effectively at 2 ohms- and in the "same" vehicle (3 different Jeep Cherokees, actually).
Here are the setups:
1 Orion DVC XTR2 12 (wired in series for an 8 ohm load),
2 8 ohm RF Audiophile subs (wired in parallel for a 4 ohm load) (these were run in 3 different boxes, 2 of them sealed, 1 of them ported. all sounded great, but I wanted MORE),
1 4 ohm RF Punch 12",
2 8 ohm RF 12" SVC punch (XLC-equivalent),
1 RF Punch DVC 12" (wired in series for an 8 ohm load),
1 RF Punch DVC 12"s (wired in series/parallel for a 4 ohm load, amp bridged),
and finally 4 8" Infinity Kappa subs, wired in series/parallel for a 4 ohm load again.
Out of all of the setups, the 4 8"s hit the tightest, but were not the loudest. These had the "bump factor" that i was looking for. THey were loud, accurate, and TIGHT. They really smacked, but all 4 8"s were only 1.2 cubic feet, TOTAL. They did not "boom" like some of the 12" setups that I have had, but they sounded great. If I had the $ and time to do a system in my 96 Maxima, I would use 2 of these and power them like crazy. I would run 2 4 ohm model off of a mono amp or 2 8 ohm drivers off of a bridged 2 channel.
THe 2 main beneficial features of 8"s are that they can run on more modest power than 10s or larger, and that they are so small that they take up little space and have great installation flexibility.
Just my opinion, take it for what it is worth.

Come onnn guys,,,,
I'm sure fsu knows there are all kinds of variables involved, he's just asking for our opinions. There will be all of those same variables with ANY setup,,, 10's, 12's, 15's.....6-1/2's,,,shucks, even tweeters are gonna depend on placement, power, wiring,,,etc....
As for my opinion fsu, I think like this. Right now you have nothing?? Then yes,,,the 8's will be worth it if you want something. I had 2 8"punch on an old Punch 75HD(@8yrs old now) for a long time. I still have the Punch 75, it's pushing my 10W3 right now actually. I was very happy with the sound I had from the 8's. Sounded really clean inside the car, but not earth-shaking by any means. But hey, I wasn't lookin to turn heads, I wanted good sound...what's your preference. It's all relative,,,,but I say go for it!! Good Luck!!
