4th gen Bose HU - Need help!!!!!!
My 95 SE has a 98 Bose HU in it and it works alright. The PROBLEM is this...When I turn my parking or headlights on the Radio display (instead of dimming) goes black! Questions... Are the buttons supposed to light as well as the display at night? Also, would it be possible to just cut a lead wire that indicates to the radio that the lights have come on and it should dim (to prevent it from dimming)? And if so what wire needs to be cut??
Does anyone have pics of what the HU should look like at night, with Headlights on?
Thanks for the help, I'm pulling my hair out.

Not so sure...
I dont believe this is the case,
My display lights up perfectly during the day, or when parking/head lights are not turned on, and when you turn them on the display just goes out all together. It does NOT get faint. The owner I bought the car from installed the headunit himself and my not have wired it correctly.

bose heaadunit
I have the same configuration 95 maxima and 98 headunit, but it doesn't do that. Pull the unit out and unplug the the wires and plug them back and then see what happens. If you hace access to another bose try the unit if it works then its something with the car, it's most likey the unit, the only other thing is the dim switch on dim or what?

Thanks for the advice, it cant be the switch set to dim since i wouldnt be able to see my gauges at night if that were the case. I have a bose specialist guy in Dallas that can look at it, but will probably charge me $75 just to do that. Any ideas on the Clipping of a lead wire to keep it from dimming?
ARE THE CONTROLS (BUTTONS) ON A '95 OR '98 BOSE UNIT SUPPOSE TO LIGHT UP WHEN PARKING/HEAD LIGHTS ARE ON?

try this
Not sure, but it sounds like it could be something like this:
You have a wire from the radio that gets dash light power. Somehow it may be getting fed from the dash lights wrong. If you have a light with a floating ground (that is, its not connected to the chasis of the car) if you take it and wire it to + and put + on the pos side too, you get NO LIGHT! If your radio gets its power from a TWO wire plug for the dash lights, try reversing them. Look into how the power from the dash lights gets to the radio. Disconnect it completely and see what that does. What it does may determine what to do to make it right.
