HELP! Dumb Newbie with a stereo

Hey guys, I just wanted to say wassup first off. This is officially my first post on this forum. I purchased a 95 Maxima GXE yesterday and i'm in love.

My problem is that i've searched the forums and cannot seem to find ANY instructions on removing the stock stereo. This is the first car i've ever had this problem. All the others just made sense. I'm probably overlooking the obvious, but oh well. If any of you guys can help me, I would be very appreciative. I'm so excited about this system. Tonight I am purchasing all new speakers to replace the 4 stock speakers. Most likely either all Boston or all JL.

BTW, i'm also looking for a guy that is good friends with Sir Nuke on the protege forums. I was told to look for you, but Nuke could not remember your forum handle.

Thanx for any help in advance

well Bob first off welcome to the org, a wealth of knowledge here, but you have to know how to get it. Since we have so many members most questions have been discussed several times over, so use the search function first and you can usually find your answers there. To remove your radio you have to take the bottom section around the shifter out, remove a couple of screws. Take out the center vent section(carefull, a little tricky the first time), remove a couple more screws, and pull out the center section. A little over simplified, but if you need more details do a search and you will find lots of info...

time2reup, thanks for the info. As a matter of fact I did use the search function and all the information I found was related to after you had removed the thing already. It was rather frustrating last night when I really wanted to do it. I'm sure I can figure out how to remove all that, except for the plastic around the shifter. I found out from a friend that it starts somehow with the ash tray, but I could not figure it out. If you or someone could please tell me how to remove the plastic there, I would be set. I truly realize how well the search function works on these types of forums. I've used it many times on other forums.

thanks again,
BlueBOB.

I have a 5 speed so I can't speak to if you have an automatic...but mine just prys up from the rear section, and there are like two tabs on the upper section that you don't want to break...pretty straight forward though...If you can't figure it out I can fax you the master sheets from Crutchfield tomorrow. Then I think there is a screw on the left and one in the ashtray, then the two on top once you get the vents out....

oh that would be great. I don't know if i'll have a fax machine near me tomorrow, but i'll check. That sounds about right as far as the screws and all, just don't want to break my Maxima the first time I take it apart.

Thanks to you both. Fortunately a friend told me to go to google and search, and sure enough I found that exact site. It made it incredibly easy. Of course, I've run into a new problem. I will search google, but how do you remove the rear deck, and before I run into another problem, how do you remove the speakers in the front doors. I have yet to try the door speakers, but if I can't figure it out, you guys will have an answer. I'm sorry to cause such craziness, but i've got about $1,400 into my stereo and want it installed.

Thanks a $hit load,

BlueBOB

Same site, that's just a link to the page before the other one.

ANother thing that you can do is call crutchfield. Tell them that you are THINKING about doing it, but want to see what all will be invloved first. Tell them that yuo have read online directions, but still cannot imagine being able to get ti right. Ask them if they can send the disassembly instructions to you so that you can decide if you really want to undertake this.

It has worked before. If worse comes to worse, order 1 wiring harness (speaker wiring harness, that is) and they will send you all of theat stuff, no questions asked. $10 for a pictoral and wiring harness that will at LEAST determine polarity of the speakers that you will be replacing...

Thanks to all of you for helping me out. I was making it a WAY bigger deal than I needed to. With a final total of approximately 6 hours, I wired up the wiring harness, replaced the stock stereo and all four stock speakers. Tonight I will be completing most of my grand task by installing the adapter for the radio antenna and FINALLY hooking up the subs. I ran into a slight problem of how to get through the firewall, but yet again Google has saved the day and this guy gave me a good idea. Once everything is complete I will finally take pics of my car for my sig and a couple pics of my stereo for my website.

Thanks again
