My Letter to Bose.com

I went to www.Bose.com to express my dislike of the Bose system in my Maxima, here's what it said:

I just bought a 1996 Maxima last year, and it has a Bose system in it. Almost right away its been having problems. The CD player will not work properly, and the radio cuts in and out. In looking to find help I also find out that the radio is NOT made by Bose, but by Clarion, and has its name on it, and that the entire system is very "non standard" and that the amps at the speakers have a high failure rate as well. Other Maxima owners I have met have just replaced the entire radio with something else. I guess that that's what I'll have to do too.

I had a demo of your in home systems that use tiny little speakers and a bass box. I was quite impressed with it and thought that I'd really like to get one. But this car radio issue has put doubts in my mind as to just how valuable a "Bose" system may be to me.

I can't understand why a company that makes products that are as good as yours are would ever lend their name to someone and let them put it on such a poor system as this.

I've been driving for about 26 years and I'm familiar with Delco products in General Motors cars, and never was too impressed with them. Well, I wish I had one now, because they were far more dependable than the Bose unit I now have.

c'mon dont be a pain, your car is 8 years old, what do you expect. I owned GM cars and Delco stereos were not dependable at all.

Pfffttt! The worst Delco I ever had was OLDER than that and MORE dependable! I can't recall ever having any problems with one.

Sorry if I'm a pain, but its 100% accurate from my POV. YMMV.

followup...

Well, if anyone out there still cares (and now that I've been told that a radio should DIE inside eight years?!?) Heres the reply I got from BLOSE!

Hello Jack,

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with the Bose (R) Music
System in your 1996 Nissan Maxima. The speakers and amplifiers are
manufactured by Bose Corporation and the radio/cassette/cd portion of the
system is manufactured by Clarion Corporation in Gardena, CA.

When the system is serviced through a Nissan dealership, they will remove
the radio and send it to Clarion Corporation for repair or they will
exchange the speakers for remanufactured units through Clarion Corporation.

Please visit your local Nissan dealership or contact Clarion Corporation at
(800) 347-8667 for information regarding a direct exchange.

Please be aware of the differences between visiting the dealership and
sending your unit direct through Clarion Corporation

1.) Clarion services dealerships first (so it is typically a little faster
through the dealership)

2.) The warranty through the dealership is 12 months.

3.) The warranty direct through Clarion Corporation is 90 days.

4.) The exchange price for a remanufactured speaker through the dealership
is $125 plus a labor fee.

5.) The exchange price for a remanufactured speaker through Clarion
Corporation is $120.

Thank you for choosing Bose Corporation.
