Sound deadening idea.

Ok as funny as this may sound, I'm wondering if it is possible to use those vinyl tiles on car panels to sound deaden a car?. I know the stuff is heavy, and stick, so shouldnt it work? Putting it in places that you can't really see might work, like in doors? Or is this a stupid idea? I'm thinking of getting a few tiles and messing with my trunk lid b/c it rattles to hell.

Crap that you would use on floors lol, like kitchen floor tiles, but the vinyl ones that stick. maybe stick them to doors? I'm thinking it would kill vibration. ANy idea?

That might work, but the tiles aren't pliable like deadening material. I've heard that hardware variety peel and seal works though as an inexpensive alternative. It would be hard to work tiles around areas that aren't flat, but it's a good thought. Eric from eDesigns might be able to hook you up with some good eDead prices too.

Now THAT is original.... Might even be something to it, but I think I agree with released,,,,might be hard to get it around the corners and curved areas. But hey if you try it, let us know what happens. I am thinking about tryin peel and seal myself. I have read some ok posts about it, so it might be worth a shot. I'll let you know.

Well, if you put any sound dampener on at the thickness of those tiles it should do a lot. But good luck getting that stuff to stick with the temp fluctuations and moisture. Also good luck cutting it to fit. There are probably a few hundred better ideas, give me a few minutes to come up with at least that many . . .
clay
cement
silicone
liquid nails
balsa
peel & seal
tar paper
roofing cement
driveway cement
fiberglass
polyurethane foam
polyurethane rubber
ceramic
kevlar
carbon fiber
aluminum honeycomb
nomex honeycomb
roofing shingles
etc.

lol....i thoguht that tile stuff was pretty sticky. I think I'm gonna give it a shot. I dont htink they are too expensive. I just wanna get rid of rattles, not really sound proof the car. Seems like tiles might be heavy enough to get rid of rattling noise. Me thinkgs I'll try it on my trunk lid somehow.
