Please recommend speakers/MP3 for '99 Max
Hi:
I do not know too much about audio electronics. I need some recommendation on what speakers are best value for the money. I am upgrading my stock non-Bose stereo system (1999 Maxima SE) with the following components:
Alpine TDM-7582 Cassette Receiver
Alpine CHM-S630 6 disc CD Changer
Requirements for new speakers:
**Easy to install, plug-n-play. I don't want to hack up OEM pieces.
**Good sound quality for the money.
Boys at Circuit City say that I should go with "subs", equalizer & this & that & most of what they said was WAAAYY over my head. My quote came out to be almost $800 installed for speakers ONLY!!! I have a feeling they were BS'ing me.
Also, I would like an MP3 player which of course should work with my new Alpine unit.
Thanks in advance.
Bobby

if you're on a tight budget (and I know you're not) I would go with the infinity reference 652i's. they fit stock mountings and are 90 Watts RMS. if you can help it get an in-dash MP3 headunit. the alpine 7894 (60x4 peak) and rockford fosgate RFX9000 (45x4 peak) are pretty good. the kenwood and pioneers don't have resume or quick track changes (the one's I've played with).
too bad i missed you at busse woods... i got '01 GLE 5 spoke rims, new speakers (652i's all around) and my frankencar since we got the y-pipe on.

Contrary to popular belief, I am on a budget
I went with the Kenwood KFC-1738C speakers. They should arrive Monday next week. Not a bad deal for $110 shipped for all four.
I also have the Crutchfield master sheet for my car. The only missing link is HOW/WHERE do I route the wire for the CD Changer. It will be mounted in the trunk...

what kind of wire is it? just regular flexible cable? you should be able to route that under the matting in the floor. I might install my amp this weekend, so i'll tell you how that goes.

I'm gonna try & route it under the carpeting, however, I was wondering if there was something special (trick) that I could use...

I recently ran an antenna wire in my 95 SE. Assuming your car is simmilar the process was pretty easy even though it might not sound like it.
Basically I pulled off the passenger kick panel and the trim along the door opening. That frees up the carpet along the right side to the door pillar. In my car there's a channel along the right side that makes for a nice guide.
Remove the back seat, it's really very easy and lightweight -- there are only four bolts involved. Then it's very easy to run the cable from the pillar area to the seat area and then there are a few places that you can easily run the cable into the trunk from there.
A tape snake will make it all easier but a coat hanger would probably be long enough to make the short runs involved.

That is exactly what I ended up doing except my 99 didn't have any bolts for the seat. I am a proud owner of a new Alpine head unit & 6-CD changer
