sub positioning

i have two 10" subs in a box, facing up(toward the rear glass in my trunk), i need to build a better box. better to face them up, towards the seats, or towards the back? several of my friends have differing opinions.

for sound quality, face them forward. they'll be crisp, clear, and will sound like they're up front.

if you want SPL and are willing to sacrifice a bit of sound quality, face them toward the back of the car.

I'm not a fan of facing them upward, as there's not enough room to make the resonances work like they should (wavelengths at those frequencies are several feet long.) with the subs only a few inches from the top of the trunk, it causes cancellations and doesn't let the speakers actually resonate like they should

Thanks, I have noticed that they sound a bit muted, and it just doesn't hit like it did in my old car. I used to have a turbo eclipse and had to build a shallow box cause my trunk sucked a$$. Well I'm still using that box, but I need to build a new one. Anyone happen to have some good dimensions that fit perfect on a 4th gen? Not sure how I am gonna keep it from rolling around.

bolt it to the floor, but be careful not to hit the gas tank under the trunk! :

Also, the eclipses are a much smaller car (plus a hatchback) so the same setup will be a lot louder in an Eclipse over a Max.

I've got mine facing up and I'll agree with the less boom with that setup. I like it, but you'll get more tunes if you face forward or back.

how about this:

facing them at a 3/4 angle towards the back but kind of right between the taillights... ????

I don't know anything about this
but I'm looking to get box/boxes for my 10s and I'm wondering what would be a better idea..

also, can someone point me to a website or tell me what kind of differences there are between the different types of enclosures or sub boxes???

can any of them be built easily by an audio rookie like myself?
