Adding aftermarket speakers with stock (non-Bose) headunit - questions

I want to add some aftermarket speakers with my stock non-Bose headunit. I searched, and couldn't find all the info I wanted... maybe I wasn't searching for the right thing...

From what I found out, it looks like it is possible to do this, right? I want to buy some Infinity speakers (I will be replacing all of them).

I haven't really bought but one set of car speakers before, so I'm not sure how to go about it. When I went to CarToys, I thought the Infinity speakers sounded the best. What do you think... are there others that are better? All I know is that the Pioneer speakers sounded like junk.

I do NOT really want to buy an aftermarket headunit, because I think they're really ugly. I like how the stock headunit looks and I'd like to keep it that way if possible.

Yup, you can change just the speakers. I have infinity references all the way around in my car. I have the components up front and the coax's in the rear.

Good choice on speakers. How do they sound w/o an amp? Does the stock deck push them okay?

Yeah, this is possible. I would suggest either getting really efficient speakers or adding an external amp, especially if you are going to go with components. When you listened to the Infinity Speakers in the store, they were probably not amped; so they will sound different with only the Factory HU pushing them.
