Bazooka install in 4th gen.

Hello to all the Maxima owners on the forum. This is my first post so please no flames. My neighbor has a 4th gen. maxima with factory bose and wants to add a Bazooka tube to add a little bass. I will be doing the install and I need your help.

1. Can I tap off of the rear speakers to get the signal to the Bazooka? If so can someone please tell me which wire is positive and which one is negative?

2. I don't want to be held responsible for drilling a hole in the firewall to run such a small gauge wire to the battery. Are there any SAFE alternatives to gain power? Can I tap off the factory Bose amp under the left speaker for power? I'm sure this thing doesn't draw much juice, it's just an off brand bazooka. I noticed that there are both red and black wires under the cap. Is that for power and ground?

3. Where could I hook up the blue remote turn-on lead?

Basically this is just temporary so we don't want to spend alot of time with the install but we want it to work right and safe.

All replies are greatly appreciated, Jonathan

I think if you tap the blue wire it will only go on if the radio is on. Cause it controls the antenna and is only up when the radio is on, you get the idea. Best bet would be to just drill the firewall, or go throug the door jams. Not sure about tapping into the speakers, so I can't really say much for that.

You can run the wire for the power off of the bose amp, BUT will be risking blowign fuses. There is an easy pass-through on the driver's side of the firewall. If you want another place to tap 12V w/ a fused power source but not go through the firewall, try the cigarette lighter lead.

As for the amp turn-on signal, I did tap off of the Bose rear amp instead of the power antenna. This has worked well. My amp is on when the stero is on (radio, CD, or cass), but is NOT on whenever the car is on. Many guys on here run there 12V switched signal from the cig lighter, but that leaves the amp on any time that the car is turned on at all. I don't like it that way, so I used the Bose turn-on signal to switch on my RF amp.

To tap off of the audio signal itself in the Bose system, these are the wire color codes (at least for a 96):

FL:
brown (-) and yellow(+) in
blue and black/white out to tweeter (same color at tweeter)

FR:
light green (-) and purple (+)
brown and black/red to tweeter

RL:
green (-) and red (+)

RR:
blue (-) and pink (+)

The red and black at each amp are a 12V + and - for power and ground. Using a small in-line fuse, I used this signal as my turn on signal. If you want to try to use it for turn-on signal AND for 12+ power for the small sub, more power to you, but I would use one side fo rpower (such as the left) and the other side for the switching signal (right). If I were you, I would just run a small run of cable from the battery to the trunk. Like I said, the pass-through is there on the right side. If you email me I can look and give you a better description of where it is.
