Audio questions, yes I searched
Audio questions, yes I searched
I searched and found a zillion links to dead pages and other info that did not give me a clear answer so after searching for an hour I'm just going to ask. And yes, it should probably be in the audio section, but I assumed I'd get a better response here due to more eyes. Hey, at least I'm not thread spamming
.
Here's the deal:
99SE with Bose system.
Got a blaupunkt HU and CD changer for Christmas from the wife (she works for Bosch/Blaupunkt so she got it for next to nuthin, literally).
I assume I need to use the Blaupunkt HU to get the CD changer to work properly, or can the Bose operate the CD changer (really doubt this one), but for the sake of asking, can it?
If not, can I use the new HU with the Bose speakers? Do I need an adaptor for the crazy amp set-ups, can I bypass? etc.
I ask all this because I'm looking for the easiest way to go, or not go at all. It was *really cheap* for the stuff so she won't be ****ed if I don't use it, I'd like to have the changer, but I usually listen to the radio anyway. I like the look of the stock HU and the Blaupunkt is pretty noisy looking. The way I'd prefer to go is Blaupunkt CD changer with stock HU, but they do not offer the FM modulator anymore and I really doubt it will connect directly.
Anyway, I'm really in the dark and looking for a little help here.
Would really appreciate a little direction and I apologize to mods or whoever for putting this here and not the audio forum, feel free to move if you must.

bose can control some aftermarket changers, but you need an interface, you might as well just install the HU too. its easy to do, just wire up a harness and run the changer cable. You will need a line output converter though, special for bose. Call crutchfield, they can hook you up with the unit, its about $50, they can also get you a wiring harness and install "master sheets" that are helpfull. Ironically, their phone techs can be a lot of help too. Email me if you need any more info, I installed my whole system myself and can walk you through anything you need.
Very much appreciated, I'm going to try and find out if the Bose can operate the Blau, if not then I'll do the head unit too. Need to find where I can get the info on the Bose abilities or whatever. I'll call crutchfield too and see what they say as well. who knows. The only reason i'd like to keep the stock HU is the HU she got is red. Yes, red. That would make my Max interior look more like a Grand Prix, no thanks. Maybe I can get a black face plate for it
.
It would really be nice if I could get the CD changer to work with the stock HU then sell the Blau HU. I may be emailing you.
-Thank Again for the response.

after all the flaming for posts people are jsut scared to post here. well anyway back to your post. hmm no you won't be able to control the changer with you stock unit. I was readin on the last crutchfield catalog that they have some adapter to connect your aftermarket cd-changer to a stock head unit. So my only suggestion is like Miasma said. Call crutchfield. Them guys know their stuff they can help you with your problem.

Your might as well change out your stock Headunit for the Blaupunkt. Most guys here thinks that the Bose systems are good, but if you can't find the FM modulator for the changer, then that is the only way to go. Besides, for the appearence, I rather have matching componets installed up front than to have a aftermarket display unit double-taped on your dash somewhere......

i had blaupunkt in my old max and im 95 sure i was told that the changer was only usable with blau hu...maybe theres some adapters or your good with wiring and can pull some magic, but i think you need the hu to operate the changer
what hu/changer do you have...i got my stuff from an internet dealer under their sale page for like half off
i had a skyline (top of line) from 2 years ago (think they discontinued it but it may be back now) and a 5 disc in dash changer (ao9? maybe)

I got a Nevada RDM168 HU (wife got it refurb from her work, it's like a 2000/2001 model) and an A08 10 disk changer. I will definitely need to use the Blau HU to use the CD Changer. Crutchfield has the adaptor hooking the Bose speakers to the Blau HU, $50. And she's also getting me the "Thumber III" from work for steering wheel controls. It would be a pretty nice set up and definitely better than the current stock one. My only problem now is that I like the clean look of the stock and I've never worried too much about having a changer and the Blau HU is RED, RED! Bright Red. All bright red. I just have visions of this big red beast sticking out of my console. Almost seems like you'd put this in to advertise to have some one break in to steal it. It catches the attention of passers by.
Like I said, she works for Bosch/Skil/Blaupunkt/Dremel (yes, it comes in very handy having her work there, we can get anything from O2 sensors to kitchen appliances for cheap) and she got it refurb from work so she paid very little for it (under $100 total for both). She told me I could just sell it if I didn't want to fiddle with installing it.
Don't know, I'll have to think about it. It sure would have been great if I could have controled the changer with the stock HU. Oh well. Thanks for the help and advice. May come down to a coin toss.
