General car starter question

I bought my girlfriend a car starter for Christmas from Circuit City.
It's the basic system (no lock, trunk or alarm function - starter only). A day or two after she had it installed her stock unlock key fob wouldn't unlock her doors and the driver side unlock button in her car will not work either. She now has to manually unlock her door from the inside. Without actually looking at the car I know that my next question can't be answered positively, but could the car starter installation have messed up her locks. Are any of these electrical systems closely integrated? She brought it back to Circuit City and they said that the problem wasn't caused by them and that they where never near the electrical system which controls the locks. I told my girlfriend to take the car to get serviced at the dealership and see what a nonbiased (her warranty has already expired) mechanic thinks. By the way she doesn’t has a Maxima, it's a Cavalier. I know most answers with be theoretical, but I'm just looking for some feed back from people who, I'm sure, are a lot more knowledgeable about this stuff than I am. Thanks.

If they did not do keyless entry for the remote start then chances are 99% that is pure coincedence.
