bose headunit adapter question.. did search, need opinions..

hey all

i just bought my max a couple weeks ago (97 se) and want to get my sony blackface head unit into it, plus my subs. reading through the posts on how to adapt the new head unit to work with the bose speakers, i come up with three options

this adapter from crutchfeld
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-UsBvhp...?i=142CNN03&s=0

this adapter / eq monster thing
http://www.linkmeup.com/pd4.htm

or this, which appears to be close to the one offered on crutchfeld
http://www.installer.com/cars/nissan.html

what i'm wondering is if anyone has any personal experience with any of these, or has known anyone who has used them. The second one seems to be the best in terms of options / quality and whatnot, but it's pricing is high, and the other two, i'm not sure if they would actually do what they claim to do or not. so if anybody has any ideas, I would appreciate it

and before anyone says it.. I know, it would be better to rip out all the speakers and just put in new good speakers along with the new head unit.. which yes, this is true, but it will be cheaper to put in my head unit with and adapter than to buy a whole new system.. and I need my head unit in, cause I can't stand this stock bose head unit crap.. no good.. anyway, sorry for the rambling, but it's 6 in the morning and i'm still half asleep.. thanks for any help you can give

The audio forum might help you out better on this one.

But personally, you say "it would be cheaper to use the adapter"...the adapter is $150.

For an example, I bought a pair of eclipse 6.5" coaxs for $110, installed and wired them myself for $0. That's cheaper than a $150 adapter. Midbass isn't as strong, and there's no rear fill (that's fine with me), but I still dig the eclipses. This would especially be an idea if your deck had separate hpf/lpf tuning capabilities, or if the speakers, such as a pair of diamond coaxs I was looking at, have built-in simple crossovers to block out low bass.

I'm just sayin that I think there are some viable deck-power coaxial options for the same or just under the price of the typical adapters people buy. I personally don't like the idea of adapters in my stereo system, but other people have been satisfied by them.
