5th Gen - Sub in spare tire well

Does anyone have this setup? Obviously I'd remove the spare tire. I've already tried doing a search but couldn't find anything.

I was wondering:

1) if I were to build a cylindrical enclosure to run flush with the trunk floor what size sub I could fit,

2) most importantly, how it would sound?

If anyone has already done this, can you post some pics? I'd also like to know what everyone thinks of this idea.

Thanks...

Yes i did it, and others have as well, old pics of mine are on my hompage and the big amp enclosure are in the new link in my sig...You can fit pretty large subs, what really matters is the enclosure size and i'd say it's around 3 cube depending on if you build up or down a little, things like that.

Bottom pics shows the two 10" momo's in the spare tire well which are completely flush to the trunk floor.

Thanks everyone!

Max’n out – your car is amazing! It’s, shall I say, juuuuuust a bit out of my league. I neither have the skills nor the $$$ to do an install like yours.

Phatmax - I like your setup a lot but I’m going to try to avoid building a false floor if there’s enough volume in the well.

BigDog – you sub setup is EXACTLY what I want to do (only difference is I’ll probably build an enclosure and drop it in). Question: did you have to remove the stock 8” Bose sub in the rear deck to let more sound into the cabin, or does it even matter? How hard does your setup hit? I use to have a single 15” Kicker Comp in a 3 cube sealed box running 300w RMS in one of my previous cars (a ’91 Max). If I can get it to sound even remotely like that I’ll be very happy.

PS – Derek, I keep a can of puncture sealant in the car and I’m an AAA member as well so hopefully I’ll be OK. But thanks for looking out!

I removed the stock bose sub cause yes I wanted more sound coming in. The setup took me one day to fiberglass the entire well and put the top on and make it flush with the floor.

With the 2 10s in the well I can hardly hear some days now. I have to turn the amps down a lot. Solid, tight bass. It's great, but a little much sometimes. That's what 1000 watts'll get ya I guess. I didn't have the bose setup so if it were ported, jesus, I can't imagine.
