03 factory audio, New fronts or amp?

I have just bought a 03 max with the factory (Crap) non Bose system. I am eventually going to replace it all, except for the head unit. I would like to keep that stock. I am in the process of putting in a sub. I have about $250 more to spend. Should I replace those factory fronts or just add an amp and run some good clean power to them? What is the weak link, the speakers, or the lack or power they are getting from the factory head unit? I will have to live with my decision for about 4-6 months until I can sock away enough for the other parts. Thanks 4 the response

You'd be better off waiting till you can get both an amp and some speakers. If you just add an amp, you will probably blow the stock speakers. And if you buy just the speakers, you will probably blow those too because of distortion from the HU from under powering. But if you must choose, buy the amp first because then if you ruin the stock speakers it's no big deal cuz you're planning on getting the speakers anyways.
