Various Speaker Brands

Hey guys, I've been doing a lot of research on this and I'm not sure what to think. I know that each set of speakers has their own characteristics and one should listen to them before buying, but I want an all around full smooth, contemporary sounding note. I listen to more jazzy, upbeat things, and hip-hop. Not too much rap. If you guys could rate the following speakers in terms of my above description, that would be great. 1 being the best and 10 being the worst. If you have any further suggestions, please include those too.

In no particular order (for those that have components and coaxials, rate the components):

Dynaudio
Infinity Kappa
Diamond Audio Hex
Diamond Audio M6
Alpine Type R
Alpine Type X
MB Quart "Q Series"
MB Quart Premium
MB Quart Reference

Those are all nice choices, but I would for sure have something drom Dynaudio at the top of the list.

Based on the type of music you enjoy, which is the same stuff I listen to, I'd rate them in the following order:

MB Quart "Q Series"
Dynaudio
MB Quart Premium
Alpine Type X
Infinity Kappa
MB Quart Reference
Alpine Type R

Haven't really listened to the Diamond Audio... (they might be great but I'm not familiar with them).

For the money, the MB Quart are your best bet. If you're strapped for cash, then the Infinity Kappa's will do the trick.

What is going to affect your sound more is the speaker size, amp choice, and enclosure type. They will have a far greater effect on your sound than the brand name printed on the cone.

Or something from CDT or ADS or Adire Audio Koda6.1...the list goes on and on. As Kojiro_FtT said, your install will determine a hell of a lot. But you should check out the Adire Audio Koda6.1, as they have been getting rave reviews.

Thanks guys, yeah I forgot Focal. I knew there were some that I missed. I'll definitely look into everything suggested so far and do more research on them. The MB Quarts are kinda bright like everyone says. I went to listen to them last week. Both the Q and the Premium. The Boston audio speakers were the best sounding of what they had there, but it wasn't much. Only those 3 actually. I've heard a lot of good things about the cost-is-no-object Dynaudio, and I've always been a true believer of the "you get what you pay for" motto, however I do have a budget for this project.

About amp choice, yes I've been researching this extensively as well and may go with an Alpine amp. I've also heard some good things about Diamond Audio amps. But more research is needed before I make a firm decision.

As for enclosures, I've got that covered. The sub is taken care of.

keep the ideas coming!!!

The Q's and Qsd's are not on the same level as the premiums, plan and simple. You just cant compare the various levels of speakers like that. I don't mean this in a harsh way case it's coming off like that.

I think you need to name a price range and then a list can begin from that...right now you got a list ranging way to much.

Also where are these going the doors the kicks the dash what? Thats really gonna say alot.

Amps...ALpine?? Well gonna depend on what speks you end up getting...You can do better though. Keep in mind the order of importance too. A speaker can only play what it's given the best spekers in the world will play crap if it's given crap from an amp and head unit.

Also will there be any eqing? External active crossovers? Some of these speakers are better because they are ment to be fine tuned. It all has to fit toghther.

The best spekaers so so amps and a good head unit will be average. But an all average sound system will be better. I didn't phrase that well but I hope you get the point.

I know what you mean about the price range and I know there's a lot that I listed. I'm looking to spend no more than 500-600 on speakers. But like you said an all-around average system will sound better than a mediocere setup with awesome speakers. What kind of amps do you recommend? I'm new to the whole car audio thing, and I'm not really looking for a competition grade system, just something that will produce quality music. The speaker locations will probably remain the in stock spots for now, but that's still under review. I know audio stuff costs a lot too, and I'm on a semi-tight budget, with a little room for splurging. I have to take into account the costs for mounting and installation of amps and stuff like that. I like everything to be clean and not just thrown in there.

I'm staying with the stock HU for now, but eventually will change it out. I have some friends back home that can do installation, so i'll check with them when I get home (I'm at school now). I hope to get a processor eventually too. I hope this info helps some.

Yup that sorts out alot. First I woun't get the "high end stuff" Your Q series and high end focals and stuff like that.

Maybe look into mid level, focal, Eclipse, DLS, Diamond things like that prob look to spend around 400-500 dollers on spekaers for the doors.

Amps, maybe some Eclipse again, Zapco AG, Arc audio, PG, Alpine on this level is nice, Esoteric audio...Some things like that.

O and for speaker size I say look at 6.5 mids and 1" tweets prob looking to mount the tweets in the a piller.

The best overall thing to do is plan what you want in the end so that all the pieces you buy now work in the end. Hope this gets ya going.
