Sub Boxes

Bandpass

Ported

Which in your opinion will hit the hardest?

Depends on the sub and the specific box. Too many parameters to have a blanket answer. Hitting the hardest, at what frequency?

Go to the website of the sub maker. They will have suggestions for their subs.

To determine which type of box will hit the hardest you need the T/S parameters that came with your speakers. If you can post these numbers it would help in determining which type of enclosure is reccommended. I agree with jmax, too many variables to determine a blanket answer. Some speakers will not do well in a ported/bandpass design at all.

Also, the parameters change once the sub is first, broken in and second, moving. So the makers recommendation may not match conventional wisdom for T.S. box alignment.

General rule of thumb:

Sealed = Sound quality and tighter bass
Ported = Louder. Especially at the tuned frequency
Bandpass = More of a past fad. More of a boomy bass and not bad for Rap music.

I have always liked a large sealed box myself. It just depends on your personal preference.
