Ideas on systems? ($1,000 budget)

I have an 03 Maxima SE. I didn’t get the Bose package, which i regret now. Can any audio experts provide some advice on what type of speakers, amp's, subs..etc to buy. My main goal is to have quality music, with tight base. I am assuming i need to replace all my speakers and add an amp and sub. Or should i just buy a new head unit and new speakers???? Which is better????

What kind of tight bass? Ground pounder or just a thumper? You could go with one 12", components up front, coax's in the rear, 1 (4) channel amp, misc wiring for under $1000.

$1000 budget? Start off with Alpine CDA-9813($329.00), it's the lowest model with the advanced features. Next, Alpine Type-R 6.5 up front($145.00), it's received pretty good reviews. Get yourself a 2 channel amp for the Type-Rs get a mono amp for the sub. Keep the stock rears and let the head unit power them.

As for 2 channel and mono amp, if you're on a budget, go with Rockford. Get about 2X50-75watts 2 channel and 500 mono amp. Here are some good sites.

www.onlinecarstereo.com
www.savinglots.com
www.etronics.com
www.ikesound.com
www.purecaraudio.com(good prices but expensive shipping, took a little too long to process my order)

All these prices come from www.ikesound.com which I recommend.
I would go with something like the following setup:
JBL BP300.1 $145.00
Kicker C12VR4 $90.00
Generic Box off ebay $40.00
JBL P80.2 $89.00
Infinity Reference 605cs $109.00
PK-1000 4 Guage Amp Kit $35.00

Total $518.00
Install yourself and you will have a nice system for around $500. Now if your budger is more, buy better components or subs. I am very happy with my kicker JBL setup.

I think i am going to start off by getting a new head unit and replace all the speakers. If it sounds good to me i will stay with that. If not, i will add in a sub. One step at a time. Are there any websites that review audio products?

www.sounddomain.com is decent. If you need more info, try the forums on that site.

Sounddomain and Crutchfield are great places to get info on specs and such but I've done some lookin lately and I have found that onlinecarstereo has been the best place to buy the parts once you decide what you want (apart from the almight Ebay) plus I think shipping is free for orders over $100.00.
I saved a lot of money buying my amp and midrange speakers from them.

Just keep in mind (Crutchfield aside) these places are unable to give a warranty and are not authorized to sell most of the products they carry.

As for the subwoofers if you want tight bass, also with the option to have some thump in the truck, get 2 Alpine type R 12's and a JBL BP1200 amp, you cant go wrong with that combo. Also the alpines are built better than almost any other sub they are great.

here ya go

Ok man, you want quality sound? Here's the best set up money can buy, in my opinion, for the best price. Go to ikesound.com. Get 2 infinity kappa component systems, and power them w/ a crunch amp that runs 90x4 rms. That runs them at their potential. Then load up the trunk w/ either one or two infinity bass links. I got one, and am completely satisfied. Not only do they sound clean as heaven, but take up way less room than a box and amps and caps and all that crap. They're self powered and get you the best sounding bass in my opinion. And for those of you out there w/ huge systems, i used to run 2 infinity perfects 12''. Loved it, 'till i realized i had not trunk space, and how easily stolen it was. I was gutted, and now used my smarts to get a system that not only as good as my old one, but way better. All this for under 1000 bucks? Is it possible? Of course, 870 bucks for everything if you get 2 basslinks, and only 670, if like me, you only get one basslink. Leaving you plenty of money left over to play with. A new head unit isn't even required, 'cuz the amp powers the speakers, and the basslink powers itself. Sleeper system.

I agree that the Infinity components are good. I would personally choose a better quality amp. I also think 2 10s in a custom built box that is built to the manufacturers spec will sound better than a Basslink. Everyones tastes are different. I am glad you are happy with your setup.

I agree, flea market has some good deals and has almost everything you may need. I got good deals on all my stuff and have a 2 year replacement warranty(not that i needed it but its good piece of mind)just try not to get taken advantage of with refurbished stuff or get talked into buying some crappy **** like pyle or prestige. good luck

I have to agree on the subs, as long as you don't mind sacrifcing some trunk room. Two 10's in the correct sized sealed box will give a very tight base. See my sig for what I chose.

i would also go with the 2 10" alpine sub. they don't need alot of power.

The flea market is where i found my audiobahn subwoofers. I found my pioneer 9200 head unit, pioneer speakers..... Yea they do have rockwoods and other BS but they have some of the big brands also, ive seen alot of nice stuff, some new some refurbished, its up to you to check em and see if they are ok. I dont know how other flea markets are but i got 2 yr warranty and have had no problems except for a sony xplod cd player which broke, but i had no problem s bringing it back. I plan on getting my jbl bp1200 amp there also, i guess im the only one who feels this way about flea markets.
