Getting the antenna down....

I had a Kenwood CD headunit installed into my '92 SE to replace the stock Bose radio/cassette player. Now the antenna stays up whenever the unit is on (both radio and CD). Is there a way to get the antenna to come up only when the radio is playing and not while CDs are playing???? Thanks-

It's a KDC-315S, nothing fancy (not an Excellon). Just enough to play my music with a stock system. I am happy with it except for the antenna problem and the annoying loud 'beep' it makes whenever you press the source button to change from OFF --> TUNER --> CD. I don't know if the Excellons do that though.
what's up
Your Kenwood head unit should have an antena wire, that will controll your antena. I am not fimiliar with Kenwood head units, this one might not have a control wire for the antena. If you have the schematic for the CD head unit then check that out. I got ticked off with my antena and the mechanism on it broke. I just replaced the whole thing with one that is always up, it can be tilted to make it look better.

i have a kenwood deck too, the 1011, the bottem of the line one from the last years models. I have the same thing, my antenna stays up when its on, whether its cd or radio, but it doesnt bug me cause it keeps my amp on. sorry i dont konw how to disable that, butthe beep you should be able to turn off through the menu. Im really happy with my radio, it was in beforei bought the car, but for being like 150 it has decent features, esp. the ATT button (mute) i use it all the time. i think theyve lessoned the features of the base models these days though, so mine wouldnt be consired bottem of the line anymore for the features it has.
Some manufacturers use an always on signal to control the power antenna, it saves money because its 1 less relay. Then it can be used as a 2nd amplifier remote turn on. I think you must use a 2nd remote turn on if you are connecting more than 5 accessories that need remote power. Prolly can't do anything about this unless you wire in some sort of custom relay that detects when the tuner is on or off and reacts. I've heard of it being done but it might be cheaper just to get another unit.
The Problem...
it may be that you need an adapter for the attena...Did you use one of these when you installed it? When I read this it made me remember how at crutch and car toyz (where i am probably getting my stereo soon) they todl me I need this $10-$15 adapter...Maybe this is your problem? Call crutch and ask, those people usually know what they're talkign about.

what's the big deal?
I have a Pioneer unit and it does the same thing, but I didn't think twice about it. Would you really want your antenna to up and go down everytime you switch sources. That's a lot of wear and tear on an antenna system that is prone to break anyways. I don't see any real advantages to not having the antenna up when you are playing CD's. I don't know of any factory cars that do this and I don't see why you would want to.
Hey dude. I used to manage a stereo shop and I have a Kenwood KDC-X915 Limited Edition CD Player. To diable the beep, hold in your AUD button. Scroll over with the track changing buttons until you see "Beep." Press the AM or FM buttons to change it between off and on.
As far as your antenna goes, take your dash apart and pull the radio out. Look at the harness. There will be two blue wires coming from the Kenwood radio. The solid blue wire should be an antenna wire and the blue wire with the white stripe should be the remote wire. Make sure that all amplifiers are connected ONLY to the remote wire and the factory wire for the antenna from the factory harness is connected to the antenna wire. When you eject a CD or tape, the tuner will turn on and the antenna will raise. When you change back to tape or CD (whichever you have), the antenna will lower. Problem solved.
