Ok, I am looking to upgrade the speakers in my 89 GXE, and I really have no clue what I am doing. I have taken my car to various places, and got some way different opinions. One place said that i need 4x6's up front and 6x9's in back. Another place looked at my car and said 6.5's up front in back. So what sizes do i really need? Oh, and I dont have the Bose system, just the standard one. Thanks for your help.

Thanks

With the 6x9's in back, do they fit in pretty good or does it need custom labor?

wait a minute...

I know for BOSE systems it is 4x6 up front and 6x9's in the back... If you have regular system then I think it is 6.5's but I know it's not 4x6 and 6x9...and if you have the bose system you have to replace your head unit to replace your speakers unless you buy some $50 adapter, but thats just not worth it.

Thanks. That seems more like it. I was looking at the rear ones again today and Im almost positive that they are 6.5's. I think it is probably the same up front, or maybe 5.25. SpeednSound - does your 91 have the bose or the standard system? What speakers are you putting in?

6.75"s not 6.5"s

I've replaced my rear speakers myself and I know that they are 6.75"s and not 6.5"s. You can buy 6.5"s and a mounting ring and make them fit or you can just buy 6.75"s for a direct fit. The 4x6"s up front are correct, but you can fit 5.25"s or 6.5"s in there with some woodworking. I am putting better 6.75"s in the rear and the same speakers up front. I figure I'll be a little different than everyone else, not that anyone will notice. Just make sure you research all of your possibilities before you buy something you don't like. The worst thing to do is what I did by buying 4 speakers that cost $100 total, and realizing that for $100 more you can get a much higher quality speaker.

6.75?

Cincy94Max - Do you know what 6.75 speakers you are going to put in? I haven't done alot of searching, but the only ones i could remember were some oversized 6.5's made by pioneer. What are you looking to spend on the back pair, around 100?

here ya go...

These are pretty much top of the line as they are Pioneer's most expensive 6.75"s that I can find. They retail for $150 but this site has them for $105 and they seem like a reputable company. I was going to purchase 4 of those speakers from them sometime next week. Here's the link: http://www.globe-mart.com/audvid/car...5/TS-A1795.htm

alright...

If all goes well this weekend with my test brackets I will order the speakers and if I have time during the week, I will put them in, but most likely I will have to wait until next weekend. I'll tell you how they sound.

Speakers

I got Eclipse 6x9's and MTX 4x6's...not yet installed. I'd get infinity before Pioneer, just my opinion. pioneer seems to be cheap and not have as good of reliability as some other products out there.

As with all speakers, you get what you pay for. Pioneer has a wide range of speakers with prices ranging from $30-$150 MSRP for a pair. I have yet to see a pair of Infinity speakers for less than $100 MSRP. The Infinity products are going to sound better unless you compare them to a comparably priced Pioneer product. Pioneer is a great competitor in my opinion and offers quality products for a decent price. So does Infinity and other brands and I personally would have gone with the Infinity 652i's but I didn't want to deal with mounting brackets for the rears. In the end I found the Pioneers I wanted for a good price ($45 below any where else I found) and purchased them. In my opinion you can't go wrong with a pair of speakers that cost around $100 a pair. If you buy anything under $100 you are just asking for sub-par sound.

SpeednSound-

Did your car have the bose system? because in my 89 its just 6.5's in the back. Or did Nissan start doing the 6x9's in 90 or 91?
