ANY aftermarket radio in a 4th gen will stick out of the dash about a half an inch. The reason being, on the factory radio brackets there are two holes for mounting and those correspond to the holes in the sides of your new radio. if you want the radio flush you will have to make new holes on the radio brackets inorder to get the "flush look". I have done this and its really not worth the time...

if you look at my post i corrected myself in saying you would have to modify your radio brackets if you want the faceplate to sit flush in the dash. Some manufacturers like Kenwood do have extra mounting point on the body of the radio. Pioneer in this case DOES NOT.
and your particular model has a flip face that is about half as thick as a pioneers face plate, hense the 1/8" you say it sticks out...
so like i said most aftermarket radios for a 4th gen maxima when installed in the factory position will have the faceplate stick out everytime, which is totally normal, geez!!
