i've read that larger the sub, the deeper it will hit and that the smaller the sub, the quicker it can move. But with the new technologies that are available to the manufactors, i'm not sure it really matters nowadays. The biggest concern is the install.

Two 12's are the way to go. Not too big and definately not small.

what I meant was you can have the best 10s, 12s or whatever but mess up how it sounds by putting them in the wrong sized box, tuning them to the wrong fqz (in a ported box) or having a car that rattles like hell and lets all of the bass escape from the car which means less bass inside the car.

Every sub has its ideal parameters as far as what kind of box it goes into and what size. You must be sure you stay as close to these numbers as you can or the sub will should like ****.

It's relative. Many would have more than enough deep bass from a single small sealed box 10. That's of course if you use a decent quality sub and do a good enough job with the install. For a little more spl you can switch that to ported, double the number of subs, or increase the size of the subs.

Or get one of these:

Info

My buddy has the one that's got a 10" sub and it is against the laws of physics how much bass this thing puts out while hitting lows lower than my old JL Bandpass box with 2 12"s! We are both running on a JL Audio 500x1 amp.

If nothing else, at least go listen to this at a JL Audio dealer. The HO with the 10" W7 would be enough for most people...I haven't actually heard the 12" W7 but it is supposed to be even better. I'm going to see if the 12" W7 HO box will fit in my Max...otherwise I'll be happy with the 10" W7 HO.
