HELP ME!!! Does it Matter What Size Wire Gauge is from Sub to Amp???

Cause I bought a Stinger 4 Gauge Power Kit-SWKH4 but dont think the 17ft of 18gauge wire is for wiring sub to box & then sub box to amp??? Is 18 gauge small or what size gauge do I need to be using.
Please respond ASAP!!! Thanks

By the way this is what I'm going to run: JL 12" W7 & 1000/1 JL amp------------>

12 gauge is probably fine. 8 gauge is common, but overkill.

Nice setup. I am interested to know how that SubZone box works with the 12W7. Most people I know build those High Output Boxes for the W7 series. What is the internal volume for that box?

The 18 guage wire is for the remote for the amp. 4guage wire is for the power from the battery. you want to run 12 or 10 guage for your speaker. nice though i am going for the 13W7 and the JL audio 1000/1 tell me how it sounds once you get it installed

Yeah it's a good idea to get a thicker wire to power that monster.

JLAudio recommends 4 ga wire for the 1000/1. call me carzy but i would think they know what they are talking about considering they do build the amps.

But seriously now, that's only one small amp in the power chain. He still needs power for mids and tweets. Not to mention any accessories now or in the future. And what is 4 gauge good for anyway with the 13-18 feet needed to get from the battery to the dist block and then to the amp? 60-70 amps? Sorry, just guessing. Don't feel like digging out the book or following the links.

yes that is true. if he has plans to add another amp in the future. 1/0 guage would be the best bet. run to a distro block then run 4 ga to his jl 1000/1.

yeah there is 2 ga wire. but you want to run 1/0 if you are going to use it for 2 4ga applications
