Antenna

I recently installed a new head unit in my 03 Maxima and got the antenna adapter but with most stations I am getting a whole lot of static. I know the blue factory wire is the power antenna but its not hooked up to anything because there was no wire on the harness for it. Any ideas why this might be?

I don't believe you have a power antenna. It is built into the back window. You might want to check your local station settins and make sure it is turned off.

No, its not a power antenna but the blue wire that isnt being used says antenna right on it so im thinking it may be a power source for the antenna but I am not sure. My local settings are off i checked that. Anyone no what this might be? Any help will be greatful. Thanks!

The 2000-2003 require the antenna wire to be powered because the antenna is amplified.. you need to hook this up to your remote amp turn on wire, or else u get no signal.

I have mine hooked up, but man the reception sucks so bad..

I heard in the 5th gener Max's that in order to get good receptions for your radio stations is that you must have the power antenna lead coming out of your headunit connected to the power antenna lead in the car. Eventhough, the 5th gen. Max does'nt have an outside antenna, the one built in the rear window is powered. Hope this clears up any.

This is true. I had the same problem when I connected the aftermarket radio to my Max. Once I went back and connected the power antenna wire on the wire harness with the power ant wire on my HU my radio reception improved 100%

Okay guys, you are misunderstanding what i am saying.

I installed my stereo in both my 2k2 and 2k3. And yes there is a turn on lead becuase the antenna is amplified in the 5th gen.

If do not connect the turn on lead to the antenna wire, you will get ZERO signal... NO STATIONS, Nadda

I have my antenna wire connected to my head unit... but the reception, although i do pull in stations, is so crap. The stock headunit had better reception.

This happened on both my 2k2 and my 2k3. What type of adapters are you guys using? I am using the metra NISSAN DUAL DIVERSITY ANTENNA ADAPTER. I am concidering using the SCOSCHE VERSION.. Does anybody have this one?

I think I am using the Metra one and my reception became pretty good once I connected the power ant wire. You could try what someone else on the forum did and plug the antenna into the adaptor backwards(so the clip doesnt go in the receptical). Other than that I believe they are all the same. Also, try unplugging and replugging the antenna wire to the back of the HU while it is on to see if there was any ground interference.
