enclosure for components in front door

I was wondering if anybody has made a custom enclore in there front door for their components, and if it would improve midbass. I just finished my system it there is hardly any midbass. My components would not fit into the factory bose speaker enclosure so I had to cut the back of it out because they were too deep. Any help would be appreciated.

make sure you build a weather shield on top of the speaker so it won't get any rain water on it.. instead of cutting th eback, i added a 3/4 thick mdf to the stock speaker mount, pushing it out (but now i have problems with the door panel). to improve bass response, add sound deadening material to the door skin. seal the door up with some sound deadening materal like dynamat. and use a sponge speaker surrround so it seals the front of the speaker up to the speaker grill on the door panel, that helps prevent bass leak and rattling.
