Aftermarket alarm suggestions?
My car keeps having it's clear corner side markers stolen.. it's apparent the stock alarm isn't doing anything... i guess it too goes to sleep at night...
What are your suggestions for an aftermarket alarm? One that is sensitive to bumps (proximity maybe?) and stuff... perhaps a 2 way alarm?

sorry I cant provide any help here, I myself am trying to learn more about alarms.
It sucks that their stealing your clear markers, but atleast they arent going for your HID's. Still that must be annoying

Viper is very good. But even w/ a proximity sensor, I don't think it would even give you a warning if they are stealing your clear corners. Proximity sensor's are installed in the center arm rest area. They give a warning when someone is close to either the front driver or passenger side when someone is looking in the vehicle or close to the window.

Interesting, I will do my research on the viper responder...
I have a factory installed remote start which starts the car by locking the doors twice, I would assume the alarm will do the same thing... or should I have the remote start feature installed, and have the factory one taken out?

The viper 790vx which has the 2 way paging display and has the remote start included, it's a very good unit. I have a proximity sensor on my car alarm. It can always be set where your zone is pretty big. Normally, when someone is walking by my car, it'll chirp at them. Who knows, maybe that would be enough to scare away your theives. But I'd definitly recommend that viper alarm.

When I got my car alarm, they didn't have the 790xv out yet. I had to settle for the 800esp. But proximity sensor's go for ~$120 and ~$20 bucks to install the prox. Alarm I think is going for around ~500 including basic install(I think) But I think the alarm goes for cheaper than that.

I went to circuit city (should I trust them???) and priced out my install... here's what they gave me:
790: 237.99
Prox Sensor: 119.99
Relay: 12.99
Bypass: 39.99
Install 790: 160
Install Fee: 3.99
Install Prox: 30.00
Install Glassbreak: 50.00
Install Trunk: 35.00
--------------------------
Grand Total w/ tax: 710.50
That's a pretty penny! Does anyone know where I could maybe get some parts for a little cheaper than what Circuit City quoted me for?
Maybe someone who's a pro and can do the install for me (In Mass)?
What do you think?

My main problem is I have a remote start installed already (it's a Code Alarm starter??), and Circuit City is saying they have to uninstall that one so they can do their install... However the guy I spoke to that did the install for me when the car was still at the dealer said that it should be able to work, so everything right now just isn't making sense...
That's why I would prefer a "personal" touch to the install, rather than a corporate chain store who's pushing for quantity not quality... (I hope that doesn't offend anyone..)

Most of the Northeast Org memebers already know.

Re: Aftermarket alarm suggestions?
Considering the value of your car, you should definitely upgrade your alarm, especially given the crime activity you are experiencing.
However, unless you're willing to spend close to $1000, no car alarm will help you with your side marker problem (at best, the alarm will go off when the markers are pulled, but then its too late). I'd bolt the things on from the back and use 1-way screws on the front side. That'll make it clear that these things are on to stay and the thieves won't bother.

And the theives will try their hardest to get them out, and then i'll have to live with body damage... plus how can I get to the rear side markers? I know if you take off the front "flaps" on the bottom of the car, they should be easily accessable, but I don't know about the back ones on a 5th gen?

What I think....
Well Sprite,,,,it's been a while since I have been to the .org, but it's quite comforting to see that Don (among others) is still here, willing to help out fellow org members. I tell ya what, I live way down here in Southern Louisiana, but shucks, I'm almost ready to make a roadtrip to see him myself for a few things...hehe.
I think it really sucks that your stuff keeps gettin messed with, but I definitely think it would be worth it to get a good alarm put in, and if that means a little roadtrip to visit Don,,,I think it might be worth it...Just my 2
Good Luck which ever way you go....

Actually, weekends don't work for me for about a month. Between work and baseball games, I don't have time.
How long does the install take? Its 3 hours there and back, so I could probably get by with taking a day off work...
Also, how does the Code Alarm remote start work? I know you need a bypass key or something, would there already be one in there to make the ignition think the key is in?
Let me know

Depending on what module they used for the CodeAlarm will determine if a new one is needed. I use a DEI p/n 555U, in which case is also what most places use regardless of what alarm they use.

LoL no problem, yea there has to be one in there now, its just comes down to which bypass module they used in which case is what I need to worry about.

Well, the car was vandalized again the other night. I think I might just have to sell the car. I test drove a 2004 jeep grand cherokee limited edition fully loaded with navi today... I might end up trading the max
