help with radio please...

I replaced the factory cassette in my 97 with a factory cd player.
The swap was easy and went very smooth. But when I turned it on to
listen to it, the volume doesn't work. It has only about 20% of the volume as the unit I removed. Also It makes all my speakers sound as if they are blown. Do I need some different connectors? Could the new cd player be defective? It is a factory unit for a 97, could it somehow be incompatable? Any help would be appreciated.
thanks!

is the new one bose? If so, that might be your problem. I hear that a bose hu in a non-bose system will not work.

I don't think it's a bose. It doesn't say bose anywhere on it.
Are bose units marked "bose"?

I would also like to know more about this, as I am about to embark on this upgrade myself. The unit I have is a non Bose unit from a 99 Altima.

Thanks
