In need of some advice, please read.
I have finally decided that it's time to get some subs and an amp for my 2K3 Max with Bose. I want to keep the HU, and have a few questions:
1)Do you recommend keeping the Bose sub/amp? Can they stay, or will they get in the way of a good, deep bass?
2)Looking at all of the different subs/amps on the market, I am pretty much in disaray as to what to buy. I may be able to get a friend or 2 to get me good prices on some chain store brands (BestBuy, Good Guys, etc), and I may be able to get a good deal on some JL stuff. Do you have any recommendations for a sub and amp combo if I am looking for 2 12" subs and an amp to power them? I like deep, hard hitting bass (rap music, mostly). I would like to spend no more than ~600-800.
Thanks.

OK, did some research and now I have another question:
It seems that what I want and the price that I want it for are not really matching up very well (i.e. I also need a box, dynamat, installation, etc), so maybe it is a better idea to go with one 15" sub and an amp with just enough power to handle it. Any viable ideas for this type of setup and said price range (maybe even lower)?

For the sound deadening for the trunk floor go to Lowes. Pick up 20-30 sq feet of "Peel & Seal". Probably cost about $1 per sq foot unless you have a friend that works in the store. For the sub and amp, how much space in the trunk are you willing to part with? This will greatly affect the subs we can recommend.
From your friends get a good waterproof fuse holder, ANL style for under the hood. For power wire go to a local welding shop and get about 18 feet of 1/0 and 6 feet of 2 gauge. The 18 feet will be from the battery to a distribtion block in the trunk. You may be able to get by with 16 feet. The smaller cable will run from the distribution block to the amp and the ground to the amp. Have the welding shop crimp a ring terminal on the 6 foot section and cut it in half. The 3 foot section with ring terminal will be the ground cable. I upped the gauge by one so that they will match up with the current draw you may have and the standard connector size of car audio power cables.
All of this should add up to between $50 and $90 depending on how good your friends hook up is and how good the stuff is that they get you.
That leaves you with over $700 for sub amp, sub, box, RCA cable, remote turn on lead, speaker level to amp adapter, etc.
