switching out bose headunit
switching out bose headunit
i went up to tweeter the other day and talked to one of the installers about changing my bose headunit because the cd player does not work. he said that he can install a new headunit with the bose speakers by bypassing the bose amplifiers. I am pretty much set on buying the eclipse cd5423 headunit. my question is would i need to buy a new amplifier to power my speakers or would the headunit be able to give them enough power. i have no problem spending some cash on an amplifier also. in the end would this sound better than the bose setup?
The Bose speakers have their own amplifiers inside the bottom of the speakers. You won't need any new amps. If the guy's installing your headunit so it uses the stock Bose speakers, it's not really "bypassing the Bose amplifiers" per se (except maybe the subwoofer amplifier). The installer will need to use some kind of adapter for interfacing your headunit's outputs to the Bose speaker inputs.
i dont think the speakers will play or even play good and loud without the amp to them so tell him you wanna have the bose amp..i just changed mine my self and it wouldnt work without the amps hooked up and with the bose amps it sounds really nice like i had my system in the car already
yeah, if you are changing your hu you need to hook it up through the bose amps or they won't play. i am curious as to why you can't just by the hu and wiring harness and just install it yourself....easier than breathing.

just out of curiosity does anyone know that if you had your whole bose system taken out, could it be put into another non-bose maxima?

You can replace the head unit. You just have to either buy the adapter that spirilis was talking about, or rewire each amp. The bose head unit is designed to run bose 1 ohm speakers. An aftermarket head unit is designed to run 4 ohm speakers. My advice...to get the best clarity...don't replace the head unit or the speakers, until you can replace them both. That is what I'm going to do. Bose used to be great, now they are just good. Plenty of after market systems can whoop *** on bose.

The adapter still won't sound as good as rewiring. And once you have it its only a matter of time before your speakers blow. Rewire is the way to go.

As for the aftermarket deck, I guess it does not matter if it has internal amplification or not... ?
