Anyone with Alpine HU
Anyone with Alpine HU
I put an Alpine CDA-9815 in my 2k2 like 2 months ago and ever since I have not been able to pull any radio stations. I have the antenna adaptor and I pulled everything apart twice to recheck the connections. I havent had a chance to contact Alpine yet and I was wondering if anyone was experiencing this problem. My connections are fine and nothing is grounding out. I cant even pull the Rutgers station which is 12 miles from my house!!! I am out of ideas.
Good question; I have a CDA-9813 I'm installing, although my system is not ready for power-on yet. My CDA-9813 worked beautifully in my old Mazda, and I bought a Scosche diversity antenna adapter, so I'll see how it works when I'm finished wiring my amps/power distribution up tonight.
Check the radio settings in the setup screens? (hold the 'F/SETUP' button to get there). Also, I tend to use FM-2 instead of regular FM when pulling in stations, not sure if there's a huge diff there.

I have the radio set to manual mode otherwise it will only search LX or DX. Even if I set it to DX it wont pick anything up. I will look into the FM/FM-2 when I get home. Im wondering if I possibly got a bad adaptor. Im going to take it to PC Richard next weekend since they sold me the equipment.

Someone else complained about bad reception while using an adapter...
I'll have to make sure I have the receipt for mine so I can take it back to Walmart if it sucks :-D
Bad adapters can **** reception, especially if they cause impedance mismatching in the antenna circuit (talk to any CB/HAM radio guys for more info on that; it's more of an issue with CB/HAM since they transmit... but impedance issues apply to all RF applications)

I had the same problem after adding an Eclipse head unit. Here is the quote from a thread a I started:
"After adding the Eclipse HU, my radio reception really sucked. I left it this way for almost 2 months until Igor911 told me the secret:
Connect the blue power antenna wire from the aftermarket HU to the blue power antenna wire from the stock Bose harness. I didn't think that wire needed to be hooked up because our 5th gens don't have power antennas, but it WORKED! My radio reception is now back to normal.
Thanks Igor911!!"

Well, I have the non bose HU but I thought the same thing. I couldnt figure out why there was a power antenna wire. I will try that this weekend when I get home.
Thanks Tony and Igor911

I have the power antenna lead hooked up. I got to listen to the radio a good bit yesterday in the car; while it works decently, it doesn't work *quite* as well as it did with the Bose headunit. Maybe a ****ty adapter, maybe not; I'd imagine the Bose has the advantage that it can utilize the Diversity system, whereas the Alpine can't.
Whatever happened to the days where everyone used the same type of antenna lead? Oh progress.....
