If I have two subs (jl 10w0) that require 125w rms @ 4 ohms, would an amp putting out 90wx2 at 4 ohms be sufficient or do I need more power?

What type of amp? You could mono the amp and put the subs in a parallel wiring to get 4 ohms mono.

RF 360a2.

This is all really new to me, could someone explain the differences between wiring for 4 ohm 2 ohm, mono, etc, or at least point me somewhere that'll tell me? I'm sure I could figure it out on my own if I knew what it meant!!

Thanks!

Power

The only thing you need to think about is that the more power the better.
If that does not help then just visit your local audio shop
or ask Matt.

More power is not always the best.

Maybe this will answer your questions.

According to the Rockford Fosgate spec sheet for the 360a2, you will push 360 watts to the sub if you wire it at 4 ohm mono.

RF has extremely underated amps. When they say 90 X 2, you can expect 125 X 2 or higher. If I were You, I would use one channel for the sub. You will be safe.

your subs don't REQUIRE 125 watts

That is the optimum RMS, you can run 90 watts into them just fine, it just won't be as loud/sound as good as it would at 125 RMS. Ohm's is the resistance...Kinda confusing but you get more power out of an amp at 2 ohms, then you do at 4 ohms...Lower the rating=more power out of the amp...but you can only go as low as the amp can handle or else it'll overheat. Mono, I think he's talking about bridging the amp, this gets the most power out of it...Not ALL amps can be bridged but most new ones can. If it's a two channel amp the WATTSx1=xxxxx is the bridged output.

hope it helps a little,
PJ

that amp will do a good job for those subs if ran stereo for 90 watts to each sub. you can also get more power if you bridge it but it will get hotter and you run a risk of blowing the amp.

Don't run that RF amp at 2 Ohm mono. If you've not bought the subs yet consider the 8 Ohm models W0, that way when you wire them parallel and bridge your RF amplifier it will deliver around 400Wrms to the combined 4 Ohm load.

RF amplifiers are not recommended to be run at 2 Ohm mono according to any information I've seen from Rockford.
