Steering wheel controls, need help
I appologize in advance for posting this question because I am sure it has been asked a thousand times but I could not find the answer searching through previous threads.
I swapped my BLose HU out with a Pioneer DEH-750 and I need to know what to get to use the steering wheel controls with this new HU. At the very least I need a wiring diagram of the conrtol harness so I can operate my trip computer. I do not need a diagram for the speaker wires or power. I have already installed the unit with wire harnessess and soldered the two togther and sealed it all with heat shrink tubing (it's very neat and clean). However some ideas on using the illumination wires would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

That is the unit you need to make the steering wheel controls to work with any aftermarket headunit that is remote control capable.

i'm gonna jump in on this...who owns one of these. no website ever really explained to me how it worked. it seems like there's an infrared sensor that is programmed so that it acts just like the HU remote. if so, where does this sensor get mounted?
where did you guys mount yours, IF that's how it works.
also, does it work well...what are your thoughts on it.

I had it prior to my audio being stolen. Thats exactly how it works, it has a infrared you mount somewhere in front of the headunit. I mounted mine in the heated seats switch location (since i dont have any) and it still worked awesome. You have to tap about 3-4wires. Besides that its simple, it basically as a headunit remote.

I have one of these. Installation is anything but simple and the instructions are a little overwhelming. However, there is a customer service number with them that an actual person will help walk you through the process.
If I remember correctly there is a bunch of specific models of head units that are not compatible. The system is infared based, so if your head unit's remote is sound activated (I think some Pioneers use sonic remotes?) then it will not work. I suggest you buy from Crutchfield. It might be slightly more but the extra is worth the fairly decent customer service they have and a pretty solid return policy if it doesn't work with your system.
I mounted my emitter on the dash facing the rear of the car right next to the head unit. It worked perfectly with my Eclipse player, but now that I have a Sony I evidently need to re-mount the emitter because the Sony's IR receiver sticks out ever-so-slightly more out of the dash than the Eclipse. I don't believe it has anything to do with the actual difference in brands but rather the difference in ergonomics. It still works, but only if I put my hand directly in front of the emitter to relfect the IR beam back towards the stereo!!
